Back in 2016 I decided to start doing a silly thing every July. I try to beat at least five "Summer Themed" retro games. Doing so gives me something to look forward to in this, the most hellish of seasons (if you live in hot, humid, buggy Georgia it is uh... uncomfortable). So what does "Summer Themed" mean to me? It means each chosen retro game must adhere thematically to one (or more) of the following ten themes:
Beach Bikini Boat Fishing Freshwater Island Jungle Ocean Submersible
Tropical
Ideally I try to find retro games that use multiple themes from that list. I figured if I'm going to be doing this every year, I might as well write about it. After all, I've put together quite an extensive list of fitting games for many Julys to come. So this thread will be where I chronicle my summer themed misadventures this year. If you want to offer opinions on what I'm playing/writing, I always appreciate feedback. And if you want to join in yourself, playing retro games that fit summer themes, by all means feel free to do so by posting your experiences here!
My first game for this STG will be... Aquanaut's Holiday - Hidden Memories (2008 | PS3)
Here's a few screenshots to whet your interest...
See you in July!

Man, I could use some relief from this heat for sure. It's nothing but hot and humid in the 'Sip.

For some reason all I can think of is TMNT: The Manhattan Project on the NES, cause the first level's a beach IIRC. Maybe I'll play that one.

I thought about some other games which may go well with Ex's summer theme and I came up with the Lost in Blue, Sea Dogs and Monkey Island series. You may also want to look at ScubaVenture: The Search for Pirate's Treasure.
As for summer themed FPSs, besides Duke Caribbean I'd like to mention Far Cry, Crysis, Boiling Point: Road to Hell and Xenus II: White Gold.

Thanks for your suggestions Tsumuri, some of those were already in my list, and some were not! I appreciate the input.

Wow, Ex, Aquanaut's Holiday has gorgeous graphics! And those are from 2008 no less! Part of the reason I paid out the nose for this game.
