I was definitely ready for some survival horror again so I got a jump start, but yeah I'm excited to see some more impressions here from others on these titles when you guys get to them.
Ex: Not to get too off topic, but did you ever play Galerians? I think I want to start calling it the lost Sacnoth game haha... Koudelka and Shadow Hearts make me think of it a lot and vice versa. Galerians might even be more obtuse than these games. Definitely recommended if you guys dig this kind of stuff and want some more bizarre survival horror with dark themes. I'm hoping the PS2 sequel Galerians Ash is solid too.

I've never played Galerians, but I've read about it over the years. Dude there are a LOT of survival horror games on the PS1.

I have both of those, but haven't put a lot of time into either. EDIT: I started Koudelka back up. I'm about to where I was before, which I believe is near the end of the first disc. Might be entirely wrong, though. Just got James on my team. The battle system definitely moves slowly, but I was able to tolerate it a bit more tonight, perhaps because I really would like to play through this one with you guys.

I started Koudelka back up. Cool man, I hope it grows on you. I promise the battle system will make more sense later on. - Well after 45 hours 37 minutes I've completely 100% finished everything possible in Mass Effect 2, it's all beaten and behind me, so now I'm clear to start Shadow Hearts: Covenant. I also plan to play through Dive Alert once I'm done with Light Crusader. Based on the three Sacnoth games I've already beaten, I feel pretty good about these two.

Yeah, put more time in tonight. Learning a few tricks. Got a few rings that boost my MP, so I can avoid using weapons (not enjoying having them break), and Edward has a level 3 punch. That's not bad with a strength boost.
Just took out a mummy lady, got a rope ladder, used it, and decided to backtrack all the way to the holy water save spot.

Yeah it's cool how Edward's FISTS can level up haha, I think the same stats apply to knuckle weapons. I've got a nice magical mace for James that boosts his stats a lot.
How are you building them? I think like I mentioned earlier I'm going with the basic suggestions I saw around, Koudelka is high INT and a magic attacker, Edward pure tank, and James kind of in the middle focusing on heals/buffs. Still stick with guns on Koudelka too in case she needs to just hit something real fast. But this is apparently the type of RPG where you have to use magic to level them up, so I'm constantly casting with her now and got Flare/Geyser up to level 2 so far. For Edward I focus on Tornado just to keep them a bit spread out.
I ended up editing the formation and thought it was useful putting Edward in front of Koudelka for the second row, from here you have a better chance of being able to get close enough to enemies from the start.
Apparently the closer you are to an enemy, you even do more magic damage.
I'm still pissed that I haven't found any armor drops after my initial run that I reset and lost progress on! But yeah I've been getting a lot of rings now that are really good.

I'm sticking with close to stock, so yeah, more INT/MND focus on Koudelka, STR/DEX for Edward, and mostly casting for James as well. I don't think I've even boosted his physical yet, outside of VIT/AGI, which seems a good investment for all characters.
I was wondering about the magic damage last night. I had an enemy move away, and my spell did less damage. Didn't know if that was just RNG or distance, and was planning on trying it tonight. Still need to stop and get Flare up to Level 2. I've got the strength boost spell up a level, anyway, on James.
I hate that I quit after my hammer broke in my earlier session. I'd gotten another set of armor, and I didn't know they'd be so rare. Oh well... I do know some enemies that will drop it, so I might stop and do some farming. That's a weird thing to do in a game like this, but there it is. I do have a set of rags that boosts Edward's PIE just enough to keep him from getting owned by magic.

I attempted to nudge into this theme with Dive Alert last night, played the Becky version for maybe an hour or so. The visuals are really cool, especially considering the hardware its on.
Sadly, this is pretty much the anti-me game. The actual gameplay here is very slow and simplistic, the meat of the game appears to be in the menu navigating to equip your submarine with all sorts of upgrades and weapons, and grinding normal missions for enough money to do so until you get strong enough to do the next story mission. There is a training mode you can get some money from, which plays like a carnival watergun game, which is... mildly entertaining?
I can see how someone that really enjoys navigating menus to figure out weight limits and set up different loadouts on your ship would have fun with this. And, those parts of the game seem very fleshed out, as soon as you get into the first hub there is an overwhelming amount of sections of gear, each with a large list of things to buy, each thing sporting tons of different stats (The game teaches you none of this, btw, no real tutorial at all). I might have persevered with this, even though its not up my alley, but the actual gameplay that you get after doing all of this is just... so, so slow. Your ship moves at maybe a millimeter a second, is represented by a triangle, only really has one useful weapon, and most of the time is spent chasing enemies vertically by diving up or down. Even the bullets (Of which you can only shoot two at a time) stay on screen for ages due to their slow speed.
I tried, even past the point where I knew this game wasn't for me, just to participate here, but man... I couldn't take it. Just not my type of game at all.

That doesn't sound too promising dunpeal2064. I might not be able to stick with it either if the gameplay is that slow. I'll still give it an honest shot though. I still recommend Faselei! to you at least.
