Now seems like as good a time as any to mention that I am not dead, and I will be doing some October challenge games. Specifically anayo has issued a challenge to beat Castlevania Bloodlines and I am going to do my best. If I have the time, I'm also going to shoot for Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem.

Glad to see you're not dead Chibby! Bloodlines is one of my favorite Castlevanias, you're in for a good time. I'm not a big fan of Eternal Darkness, but it has some very creative ideas. I do hope you and anayo play through Splatterhouse 2 together. The first three Splatterhouse releases are great stuff.

Bloodlines is indeed good. I mean, I'll be honest, almost all the classic games are really good, it's just sorting out the pecking order. It's not my favorite due to some weird physics / hit detection niggles, but absolutely worth playing. With some practice, it's also not overly difficult. Difficult, yes, but not soul-crushing.

Well, I don't see myself playing both Silent Hill 3 & 4 within a month of each other, cause I like to leave some time between each entry of a series, but if things go well I'd like to play SH3 at least. And since I'd like to work a side-scroller in there, it might just be time for King of Demons / Majuu-Ou.
Man, if I had one of those light guns that work with modern TVs, I'd play a bunch of House of the Dead too. That was one of my favorite light gun games back in the day. Playing with a mouse or controller just isn't right.

King of Demons / Majuu-Ou It's definitely worth playing through if you haven't done so yet. I imagine if I took some time to think, I could come up with some ideas for horror themed 8/16-bit platformers. The first thing that flies to mind is Demon's Crest. I wholeheartedly recommend it if you've never played it. I'll try to come back with some more ideas later.

I've either played every other 8/16-bit horror side-scroller, don't want to play it (never could get get into Demon's Crest, and I tried it again recently), or it's either King of Demons or Yokai Club, which seems so-so, so...

Didn't know there was a GeGeGe no Kitarou platformer on the PS1. This was released in Dec 2003. That's crazy late for an original PS1 title! Not a fan of the manga and that goofy-looking main character, but I'll give the game a look.

Hopefully you'll get around to playing Eternal Darkness. I was never able to get into it, but I'd like to read someone else's thoughts about it. Speaking of 8-bit horror side-scrollers: Pretty good for an obvious Castlevania-clone. At least it doesn't have those annoying medusa heads.

I'm definitely going to give King of Demons / Majuu-Ou and Master of Darkness a look, since I'm in the mood for these kinds of games right now! Also going to hit up Castlevania Bloodlines again probably at some point. Whereas I can easily run through and beat Super CV4 whenever I randomly revisit it, I predict Bloodlines won't be that welcoming.
Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever completed a run with Eric.
