We'd discussed in another thread creating a thread about emulation. Here we go. This thread is about all things emulation related. Questions, suggestions, tutoring, training, opinions, whatever. If it's about the technical usage of emulators, or talking about emulators specifically, this is the thread for that.Remember NO linking to ROMs or ISOs or illegal game copies of any sort. HRG's host (ProBoards) does not smile upon such shenanigans.

Ah, the memories of ZSNES, and using Scitech Display Doctor to enable transparencies on my machine.

Ah, the memories of ZSNES. I was totally thinking the same thing! Do you guys remember how ZSNES would change to a snowy background when your system date was set to December? I kind of miss quirky little Easter eggs like that in modern emulators (the 'severed hand' pointer in Nesticle being another example of this)

I definitely remember the snowy background, although the build I had, I believe that was on by default. I didn't care for the severed hand, but then, I'm a bit of a prude.

Dangit, now I'm going to have to grab an old build of ZSNES just to check whether my memory is cheating me! Maybe it was just an option in visual settings?

Maybe it was just an option in visual settings? I remember the snow effect, and I do think it was just a GUI option, not a date related thing. There was also a water trail effect you could apply to the background. Hey remember this hidden "gem" in NESticle?:
Thanks Shitman!

Never saw that one, but Meka had this: Look at the lower left corner. I just now realized posting this that the creator of MEKA (Omar Cornut) is one of the people behind that recent Wonder Boy game, The Dragon's Trap.

Heh, yeah, I remember that. Hilarious stuff. And I knew that Mr. Cornut was involved in Dragon's Trap, which is why it's so faithful to the original release. It almost literally is the original version with a shiny coat of paint. A coat of beautiful, hand-drawn paint. And yes, Mario is a fat plumber.

I guess it's not surprising that the best Master System emulator (until Kega Fusion made it obsolete) would be the work of a French developer, since the system was big over there. Goes to show what marketing can do - Tonka handled the Master System in America and didn't know what to do with it; Virgin really pushed it in in Europe and it worked. Similarly, the best PC Engine emulator, Ootake, is from the only place where that console was popular, Japan.

I think I've run into a few problem games in Fusion, though. Can't remember which one it was, though; maybe Ax Battler? I know I had to go digging for other emulators, at any rate. Kega Fusion is fantastic, though. I've been a fan since back in the KGen days. I used to use that as my primary Genesis emulator along with a DOS-based frontend called Ultimate ROMs Launcher. I had quite the setup going there, with custom command-line switches for multiple emulators. I even had PKUNZIP going to unzip ROMs to run in emulators that didn't support compressed ROMs.
