I agree that their 16-bit offerings are less than stellar overall. However, that 8-bit output is tremendous. Ex is right, Gimmick! is fantastic. The other games I really like from good ol' Sunsoft: - Batman: The Video Game- Batman: Return of the Joker- Gremlins 2: The New Batch- Blaster Master- Ufouria/HeberekeGames that I like, but just slightly less than the above: - Fester's Quest (come at me, bro) - Journey to Silius- Super Spy HunterThey also have a few solid Batman games on Game Boy (I really like the first one), and Trip World, which may be one of the best-looking Game Boy games out there. (I don't like it as much as Gimmick!, though.) EDIT: By the way, most of their soundtracks are amazing. Listen to this Batman stuff!

And for the sake of the argument, some other Sunsoft games I really like:
Batman: Return of the Joker (NES) Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa (Arcade) Super Fantasy Zone (Genesis) Waku Waku 7 (NeoGeo)
Also... you dudes do realize that Blaster Master was not actually developed by Sunsoft right? Blaster Master was only published by Sunsoft. The actual game was developed by... Tokai Engineering. But guess what! Tokai Engineering was actually a dummy shell company setup by Sunsoft so they could get around Nintendo's stringent publishing restrictions. Ha!

EDIT: I didn't see this page when making this reply... ah well, still mostly applies to the same discussion.
Yeah Gimmick looks awesome and Trip World is great, pretty insane for the GB on a technical level. There's also Ufouria on the NES and these three all seem like they could almost loosely be related, similar aesthetics. I definitely need to play through all of Ufouria and Gimmick sometime.
You're not really wrong at all toei, I just don't think I'd put anything Natsume did close to Blaster Master's level. And Batman is A+ caliber too, but I liked some of Natsume's stuff just as much.
I stand corrected and should just say all these four companies have some of the best classics on the NES, Natsume really is up there with the big dogs. And I said it earlier, but I really loved how the majority of Natsume's titles that played off the 80's action hero tropes, all feel like they're a big single cohesive universe. Shatterhand, Power Blade, SCAT, even Shadow of the Ninja, etc all feel like they could be part of the same series/world, yet are different enough so you don't get any case of sequalitis (but I'm the guy that could play a 1,000+ NES Mega Man's so yeah haha).
Naoki Kodaka was one of the best with the NES tunes by far. My man!

I've been playing around with various Batman games, actually. As far as I know, Sunsoft only made two on Game Boy. The first is playable, but a bit boring. You play as a tiny, weird-looking Batman sprite with what seems to be an actual gun, but you keep having to stop to bust blocks which slows down the pace a lot. The second (Return of the Joker) has awkward, slippery controls, so I didn't play for long. The third GB game is actually Konami's Batman: The Animated Series, which is pretty well-made. I'm sure some of the Castlevania fans here would like it if they haven't already played it.

I don't know why I like that first Game Boy Batman game as much as I do, but I do. I also might have no-death run that game... and yes, there was a little luck involved.

To be fair, it's still one of the better 2D Batman games, just by virtue of being playable. There's a few good ones, but a lot of them are horrible. I'm surprised there doesn't seem to be much in the way of arcade games. There's a recent-ish one, and the crappy old Atari one, but is that all there is?

There's also the 1996 Batman Forever arcade game: It was ported to Saturn, PC, and PlayStation as well. It's "OK" if you love beat 'em ups. Your best bet for an older Batman that's not 8-bit is:

And we can talk about one of the best Batman games ever in a month!
(It's Arkham Asylum, for the record.)

The Batman Forever arcade game is basically just the Saturn game running on the Sega Titan board. I would not characterize it as okay. It's pretty bad. Not as awful as the other Batman Forever, but still no good.
