toeiOh man I own The Mafat Conspiracy and have never played it. Also, worse than Steam games? I dunno, man, Steam has managed to sink even lower after Greenlight was lifted. Countless RPGMaker anime porn games, Unity asset flips, "meme" games with references no one will understand in five years... It's bad. I've always been curious about how the SG-1000 Golgo 13 plays.

I'm glad I grew up during the evolution of graphics too. Even though nowadays one could easily argue how 16bit games look better than a lot of early 3D stuff. But yeah, Star Fox was utterly mindblowing at the time. I still think it has one of the coolest and most unique OST's on the SNES too, it's extremely good. I think I'd actually love some kind of throwback styled games with that art style, just a lot of sharp symmetry with big blocks and shapes. The only issue to approaching Star Fox nowadays is the framerate. I could probably still get into it though since I have a lot of nostalgia. Star Fox 64 was truly an amazing follow up though and I loved how it was rather serious and kind of dark too, maybe a bit like Ocarina of Time for some of Nintendo's IP's back then. Hard to say much about Star Fox since. I think Nintendo dropped the ball with the franchise. You know what I think would have been pure gold? Basically make Star Fox Nintendo's own Ratchet & Clank. The R&C series is incredible and they often experiment with the space exploration, one of them was pretty Star Fox-y. I don't think anyone wants another 60 minute rail shooter for Star Fox, instead they should have put more into the series and mixed some genres into it like R&C. Maybe it's just me but I think that kind of focus would have been magic for Star Fox, third person action platformer with tons of planets to explore and rail shooter space levels in between.

Yeah, you're probably right about trash games on Steam. At least Golgo 2 tried. The people that make the types of games you listed don't give a damn. I kind of like the SG-1000 Golgo 13. It's a very simple, old-school score-chaser - you're standing in front of a highway and you have to shoot all the windows out of a moving train, but there are also cars speeding between you and them and, in later levels, helicopters shooting bombs at you. It's mostly about precision and timing.

That's basically what this is...
People tend to only remember Adventure and forget Assault even exists. I beat Assault years ago, and it wasn't too shabby. 7/10 material, worth playing if you're a fan of the franchise.

You see this room? There's an 'I love Skaarj' poster on the left. It's an Unreal reference. Also a Xenomorph and some Predator weapons? Not sure. In any case, this room is the the only good thing about Blood II, so I thought I'd share. Uninstalled.

Ouch! Blood 2 sure got a harsh appraisal from our resident FPS expert.

Ouch! Blood 2 sure got a harsh appraisal from our resident FPS expert. It's mostly playable, but game's so mediocre it hurts. Hard to believe it was made from the same folks who developed the first game, but I guess that's what happens when your game is based on an undercooked 3D engine and then it gets rushed out of the door by the publisher and doesn't get patched because it's not profitable enough. So many appalling design choices, such as RNG-based weapon damage, so that all your weapons feel underpowered unless you're lucky enough to score a 'critical hit'. I would maybe force myself to finish it if it was like last year when I played nothing but shooters, but I'd rather play fewer but better FPSes this time around.

Funny how that works, ain't it? We remember some of the worst games, and the best, but those bland, mediocre ones? Tough to remember when they don't stand out at all.
Unless they're NES platformers. I seem to remember most of those. Big surprise there, huh?

Castlevania (N64) Time invested: none Anayo why are you even bringing this game up if you haven't played it: When I was a boy I had an issue of Nintendo Power with a guide on how to beat a hedge maze in this game. I thought it looked really cool and I kind of wanted to play it. Apparently not badly enough to go get a copy, though. OK fine why aren't you going to play it: I watched an AGDQ speed run of it. It looked like something from the days when all the 2D games were trying to evolve into 3D and not all of them survived. Probably somewhat impressive when it came out, but insufferably clunky today. Castlevania SotN is more for me. Then why are you even hanging on to it: I found it at Goodwill and I have memories of when it came out so I keep it as a reminder of the past.

Give it a try, especially if you already own it. It's not as bad as you think.
