Definitely one of the things that bothered me from that era. Oof. I get it, of course. Not many polygons to go around, but much like there were teething pains in the 2D space, 3D had to endure the same thing.

I didn't mind it in the N64 days, but as soon as Playstation 2 and Gamecube came out I was like "Yeah, this looks really bad."

Today is apparently the 25th anniversary of Donkey Kong Country's US release (with Japanese and European releases coming less than a week later). This makes me feel old for several reasons, but I remember a couple of things from this period: - Nintendo Power sent me an advertisement in the form of a video tape for the game. Yes, this was a thing! - I also had an iron-on decal for a t-shirt that I wore for some time, although not at school. - The first time I played was on a kiosk in a Sam's Club. I was pretty impressed, even if I knew the trickery going on. It played a lot like Mario, which was also good. - To others, maybe the SNES was starting to feel creaky, but since I'd just gotten one, well, not so much.

- One of my favorite games of all time. - I got it for Christmas 1994 and my grandparents continued that trend with the sequels. - I got to the 4th world (infamous snow area) the morning of Christmas, heh. - At the time, I suddenly thought all other SNES and Genesis games looked weak. My friends and I were absolutely blown away by DKC's graphics and style at the time. - I eventually had a guide book that I wish I could track down again, maybe some scans? I think it was one of those "Unofficial!" lines. It had a lot of cool artwork for the levels, that really just aided in how atmospheric and huge the game felt to me at the time. Might tip the scale on my nostalgia a bit with it still being one of my favorites and most atmospheric SNES games... - As I got older, it was easier for me to figure out overall stat tracking with the sequels and doing 100%. It still took me awhile to realize that DKC1's secret levels actually worked towards your percentage and that there was a way to see when you 100%'d a level, think the title should have a (!) in it. Think I finally 100%'d the game at some point many years later, there's no reward that I recall, but it was fun to finally do.
Nowadays I tear through this game too easily in an afternoon from pure muscle memory, but I still love it dearly.

I highly doubt that DeLorean-looking "truck" is the final design. I think this is all to raise some hullabaloo to garner attention to the brand. Although if universal automotive aesthetic design started going all '80s cyberpunk, I'd be okay with that.

Yeah, I really don't hate it myself. It would look utterly ridiculous to see that in person for sure though, haha. Elon gonna' do whatever he wants.
