Legit some of the worst box art I've seen in a bit. I can't tell if that's Beast Wars era CGI or a toy?

You know, I never looked very closely at the box art. From a distance, it looked fine to me. Now... woof. That's bad. I actually think that might be a combination of toy and some CGI retouch.
I tried out Robocop 3 recently as well. It is super-weird. It looked at least somewhat interesting in Nintendo Power. But then, a lot did when you're using your imagination with this stuff. I thought the repair screen looked really cool.

Ex, you are the absolute MAN for recommending Front Mission: Gun Hazard to me. I'll save the longpost for once its done (Probably around 10 hours in or so), but hot damn is this game baller ass.
From what I have read, Cybernator (Assault Suit Leynos), Metal Warriors, and Gun Hazard were all done by different teams. This blows my mind, because I would have believed you if you told me this was some sort of unofficial trilogy ala the Gaia series. I know they are mech games, and you can only do it so many ways, but these games certainly share a lot of design choices, especially when it comes to mech feel. However it turned out, I'm glad that style prevailed!

Ex, you are the absolute MAN for recommending Front Mission: Gun Hazard to me. hot damn is this game baller ass. Baller ass is an adequate description of Gun Hazard. I'm glad you are enjoying it. I was not being hyperbolic when I said I believed Front Mission: Gun Hazard is as good as anything Nintendo ever made for the SNES/SFC. I would personally put Gun Hazard up there with ALttP and Super Metroid. BUT, with the caveat that I'm a sucker for mechs (or wanzers in this case). I am eternally thankful to AGTP for hacking Gun Hazard into English. >Cybernator (Assault Suit Leynos), Metal Warriors, and Gun Hazard were all done by different teams. Yep. And if I were to rank those personally: Gun Hazard > Assault Suit Leynos > Metal Warriors I loved Metal Warriors' competitive two player battle mode, but I thought Metal Warriors' single player campaign was trash. But I still respect Metal Warriors' large variety in mecha types. Dunpeal, these aren't as good as Gun Hazard, but if you want to play some more great mecha 8/16-bit games, I say give these a shot: Action:Aquales = This is a Sharp X68000 game, well worth emulating. It's like Assault Suits mixed with Bionic Commando. Armored Core = Definitely play through the PS1 trilogy, I had a BLAST with these when I played them a couple years ago. Assault Suits Valken = The Super Famicom version is superior to the SNES (Cybernator) one. Thankfully a translation exists. Metal Storm = Super tough, super fun mech platformer. Night Slave = A PC98 game worth emulating, its like a combination of Assault Suits Valken with a yuri eroge. Ranger X = Highly unique, amazingly programmed Genesis action game. Simple DS Series Vol. 18: The Soukou Kihei Gun Ground = Closest thing to Assault Suits you'll get on DS. Non-Action:Front Mission = I recommend the entire Front Mission SRPG series. I adored all of them. Faselei! = Very fun mecha SRPG on Neo Geo Pocket Color. Those are the first things that come to mind (that meet the 10+ year old rule). If I think of anymore I'll let you know. I have a queue of mecha games I still want to beat myself. Definitely more of the Armored Core games on PS2, as well Front Mission 2. FM2 is the only FM mainline entry I haven't beaten yet. I'll stop here, I get stupid over mecha.

Yes. Yes yes yes. Gun Hazard is amazing. I ended up playing it on Ex's recommendation as well, and it might be my favorite Japanese import. It's just so good. Speaking of SNES stuff, I actually found an SNES Classic, and couldn't help myself. Then I hemmed and hawed about hacking it... which I did. Of course. It's a sweet little piece of kit, actually! I love how fast you can get up and running compared to my normal emulation methods. I've loaded up a very curated list of games so far, and I figure I'll start diving into adding more of the offbeat stuff soon. But I just remembered that Marvelous is an SA1 game, and since the machine emulates that, I really need to throw it on there.

Man, it is so weird to me that those 3 games had no shared staff. Comparing their mechs to stuff like Ranger X (Bitchin game, I agree) or even Assault Suit Leynos, they feel so similar to each other and so different from everything else. Pretty sure my liking of the three games is similar to yours, Metal Warriors impressed the least. I really loved Cybernator though, and Gun Hazard is way up there now too. Aside Ranger X, which I already know I'll enjoy, once I put the time into getting its controls down, I definitely want to check out Metal Storm and Night Raid. I actually put a ton of hours into Armored Core 2 when I first got a ps2 back in the day, and had a pretty fun time with it, but for some reason just didn't touch the series again from there. I should get back in and play at least a few more before a new one comes out. I know I like the devs at least! I wasn't aware Cybernator got hacked up during translation, damn. I'll have to look into it and see how bad things are. Worst-case, I guess I can order a fan cart like I did with Gun Hazard.

Yeah Assault Suit Valken's cutscenes got cut right out for its Cybernator incarnation. Thankfully AGTP created a full English patch for ASV so we can play it as it was meant to be. Oh, and don't forget about this one: AKA "Target Earth" in the USA release. Very fun. VERY HARD.

By the way, I put Gun Hazard on the SNES Classic. I may not play through it soon, but I want it there. It just feels like it belongs. Sadly, Marvelous has some issues with the hi-res mode, so the text doesn't look great. Neither do a few other games that use that mode, either. Seiken Densetsu 3 has something of a fix, the rest not so much. That internal emulator is pretty good, but it's not perfect. You can throw Retroarch on there, but I've also heard that it has a good deal more lag, so I don't think I'm going to sully the system with that option.

Aww man, that sucks high res mode has issues on the SNES Classic. But still, you can play like what, at least 95% of the SNES/SFC library on it? Not too shabby.
