Yeah, it definitely looks very, very familiar. It should, check out the mech in this Shirow art from the mid-90's: VS

Shogo was always packed in with Septerra Core back in the day, heh.
Shogo was one I played a fair bit of back in the day with a friend... when I say that, it might have just simply been a day or two of "tinkering" with it. Think we got a few levels in and that was it. I did buy it on GOG some years later and yeah, it's just more of a novelty and experimental curiosity, that gets boring after like 10 minutes.
I see that FEAR shade though Ex... someday, maybe you'll see the light. At least Monolith Production threw in some awesome mecha action that worked really well in FEAR 2!

This is very true. I don't think I've played it yet, though. I'm trying to remember if I have the first or second game legit. It's technically not mine, though, it's my brother's.
EDIT: Survey says the first game. I believe that one is considered to be better.

All games from the 90s running on the Build engine outside of the holy trinity (Duke3D, Shadow Warrior, Blood) are pretty awful. Speaking of Monolith, Blood 2 is also awful. Shogo is just a sub par FPS disguised as a mech game. Couldn't get into NOLF 2 so far, the new RPG-ish elements and secondary objectives feel like busy work and make the whole thing just play clunkier than its predecessor. Now you have to invest experience points in Speed just to run about as fast as in the first game - such innovation. FEAR still is the best game to come out of Monolith.

I actually "enjoy" classic kusoge. It's funny as hell and historically fascinating.
The "worst games ever" for me are more modern fare, I suppose. Bloated, ugly, pretentious messes that are downright insulting in terms of what they present to the player, and demand in return. Final Fantasy XIII and Metal Gear Solid 4 come to mind. Just pure trash. They both feel like part of an elaborate joke that I'm not in on.

Way back when I made a "Good Bad/Bad Good" thread and we talked about Death Duel, but I think anayo would insist that it's more of an example of a Bad Bad Game than anything else. If we do October for Horrorble games, I'd be down. We'd need to call it Horrorble though, otherwise I'm out. Also, I've been thinking about giving Superman 64 an earnest attempt, so maybe that can bleed over from September.

For Christmas of 1995 my Mom and Dad got me a Sega Genesis. Genesis games were on their way out by then, so they were really affordable. So when I asked my mom for more games she'd often get them for me. One of these was Marsupalami.
It was based on a cartoon show that I caught a few times growing up. If memory serves, it was about this made-up creature who lived in the jungle. He was like a cross between a monkey and a leopard. His notable feature was a prehensile tail he could use for different purposes, like swinging between branches, Tarzan-style.
In the Genesis game, you had to guide an elephant through the stage, using your tail to help him surmount obstacles that would otherwise leave him stranded. For instance, he can't jump, so you have to morph your tail into a staircase to help the elephant walk up to a higher elevation. As a kid I hated the game because it was like one big escort mission. The elephant is really dumb and helpless and you just have to guide him everywhere. In those days I was usually pretty happy just to have anything new to play (I loved "Awesome Possum" if that's any indication), but I've never forgiven Marsupalami.
