GameFAQs times are always way over estimate, though. But HLTB has 20-25 hours. You'd probably be better served with Arcana, especially since you can probably finish it in around ten hours.

I doubt it was me. I say that, because last year over at Racketboy, one of the Together Retro themes was FPDCs, which I participated in. I don't think I would have suggested a theme I'd so recently already done. That said, I don't mind FPDCs again this year. I love the genre. GameFAQs times are always way over estimate, though. So true. The times listed on GameFAQs are always bloated at least double, if not triple the actual time to beat. HLTB is far more accurate.

Speaking of times, I just looked up the games in my list. Here's what HLTB had to say... AD&D - Treasure Of Tarmin = 5 hoursAnvil of Dawn = 15 hours Arcana = 8.5 hoursBlack Crypt = 6.5 hoursDragon Wars = 43 hours Dungeon Hack = Could not find a time. Dungeon Magic = 15 hours Dungeon Master = 16 hours Dungeon Master II = 9.5 hoursElvira 1 = 9 hoursElvira 2 = 21 hours Eye of the Beholder I = 6 hoursEye of the Beholder II = 11.5 hours Eye of the Beholder III = 8 hoursLady Sword = 7.5 hoursLightning Warrior Raidy II = Could not find a time. Might & Magic I = 55 hours Might & Magic II = 58 hours Might & Magic III = 55 hours Obitus = 5.5 hoursShadow Brain = Could not find a time. Shining in the Darkness = 21 hours Swords & Serpents = 15 hours Towers - Lord Baniff's Deceit = Could not find a time. Waxworks = 4 hours
I bolded all the sub-10 hour games for those interested in shorter rides.

Whole lotta interest goin' on for this theme so far! Well I've decided to start messing with the FPDCs that I can emulate on my phone first. To able to chip away at an FPDC during short breaks is ideal currently. I will try the SNES version of Eye of the Beholder first. At least it has an OST unlike the DOS original.

I actually was setting up my tablet for this last night. I have my partial run from Lands of Lore from last year's FPDC month, so I may dive back into that.
EDIT: Okay, I'm set back up on my new tablet. Don't remember exactly where I was, but I've got a swamp I haven't explored at all, so that's likely where I needed to be. I ran around and killed a few things while I was in there. In some ways, playing on a tablet makes things faster, as you can tap your attack icon faster than you can move your mouse to the icon and click it. It does put a small damper on how smoothly you can navigate, though, since no keyboard. (Unless I find a BT one to use, assuming ScummVM supports it.)
Speaking of ScummVM, I noticed that the version I have now had no problems importing King's Quest V/VI/VII, which was pretty surprising! I know they keep adding support for games, though, which is awesome. Even for games you'd think shouldn't run there like LoL.

It does put a small damper on how smoothly you can navigate, though, since no keyboard. I wouldn't bother with ScummVM anymore, I like this better: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fishstix.dosbox&hl=en_US "A highly optimized and feature enhanced port of the latest SVN release of DOSBox emulator for Android with specialized Voodoo Graphics, IPX Networking, PCI Devices and Windows support. Run your old DOS and Windows games quickly, with full mouse, keyboard, sound and analog joystick emulation."It's got a virtual keyboard built in: I'm definitely interested in you finishing and reviewing Lands of Lore. I've read the first two games in that series are good. I did manage to move all my console-based FPDCs to my phone, so got all that setup. Even got a good PDF app going so I can read their manuals on my phone too. Didn't end up playing anything tonight though ( New Vegas got me). Hopefully tomorrow I'll carve out some time to start on an FPDC for this theme. Just gotta decide if it's gonna be Lady Sword, Arcana, or Eye of the Beholder first.

Arcana is clearly a better game than Lady Sword, gotta say.

ScummVM has a virtual keyboard, too. I'm just referring to the fact that I have to tap the buttons on-screen in the game's UI to move around, instead of just hitting arrow keys on a keyboard which is much faster overall. Still, faster combat actually works out to my advantage. Moving to a slightly smaller tablet actually helps as well, as I can hold it a bit differently and hit buttons slightly more quickly.
I did pick it back up last night. Blew through the swamp, got the leader there a missing ceremonial mask to get a ruby from him, now I've got to remember what I was supposed to do with that. Guide time! (Seriously, picking up an RPG a year later is always a tricky proposition.)

I know Ex despises it, but I'm going to check out Deep Labyrinth for the DS right quick and see if there's anything to my liking. I've sampled some Witchaven which is an early Build engine game from 1995 developed by Capstone Software. Despite being on the Duke3D engine, it's basically a dungeon crawler. It's also not good, but that's not surprising coming from the people who made Corridor 7. Other interesting dungeon crawlers I could think of are Black Crypt and Shadowcaster, the very first and second game developed by Raven Software. By extension, I suppose HeXen might count as dungeon crawler as well. There's also Descent to Undermountain by Interplay which runs on the same engine from the Descent games. That one has a pretty bad reputation though.

I know Ex despises it, but I'm going to check out Deep Labyrinth for the DS My notes from 2013 about that game:
"(This review is based on playing the 2nd Chapter of this game.) Deep Labyrinth is a 2004 Japanese cellphone game that was inexplicably ported to the DS for no good reason. With sub par graphics, sluggish frame rates, clunky control, repetitive music, and monotonous game design... this is a real stinker. I have no idea why Atlus thought this would be a good game to publish for DS. It was a terrible game to publish for them. The longer you play Deep Labyrinth the worse it gets, and you will be left shaking your head at the ineptitude of its designers. This game's one saving grace is its above average OST... which becomes grating unfortunately, after hearing the same tune repeat forever despite the official OST having over a dozen quality tracks! I give this game 3/10 points for the OST alone. May this pile of banality forever lay lost within the deepest labyrinth of forgotten crap games."
Yeah six years ago Ex wasn't lovin' Deep Labyrinth. - In the world of DS... If you are looking for a fun and breezy DS FPDC: If you are looking for a challenging and oldschool DS FPDC: If you are looking for a challenging and lengthy DS FPDC: If you're feeling particularly masochistic and self-loathsome.
