Love the screenshots. There's just something intensely Sega about those graphics, as if it were taking place in the same universe as Virtua Fighter and Virtua Cop and all that good '90s arcade stuff. I'd definitely try it if I had the set up for it.
As I recall, Breath of Fire III had a really good fishing mini-game. That's probably the only time I've enjoyed fishing in a video game.

Yeah, it's pretty decent, as far as fishing mini-games go. I actually didn't dive into it when I resumed and beat it recently, though.

I actually remember seeing this one in the arcade back in the day. Didn't play it, but it sure looked cool with that special controller. I'd definitely try it if I had the set up for it. I can assure you both that Sega Bass Fishing is a fun time, in an arcadey way. Although I wouldn't want to play it with a standard controller, that would lose some of the magic of the experience. I do also own Sega Marine Fishing for Dreamcast. I think for next 2020's Summer Themed Games event, I'll bother to unpack my Dreamcast and set it up along with the Fishing Controller. I've got a WiiWare fishing game I plan to check out soon.

Cool to see this game is actually decent. The Wiimote definitely makes for a good fit for a fishing game.
By the way, I remember the fishing game for the Wii version of Twilight Princess being a huge time sink for me when I first played it. It was the first time a Zelda fishing minigame was actually fun to play just for the hell of it. I'll be playing through the Wii U version this time, so I'll be curious how much the Wiimote had to do with that.

Hey now! When I was a kid I liked the fishing in Link's Awakening.
Not so much in OoT. Out of all the times I've replayed it too, I sometimes didn't even bother with the Golden Scale. Too annoying!

I know I had to have done at least some fishing in OoT, but it couldn't have been much. Probably the bare minimum to get the heart container.

I didn't think anybody'd care about a fishing game, glad to be wrong. Here's actual Wii gameplay:
You can get this game extremely cheap off eBay.

Tonight I tortured my wife with not one crappy Wii game, but two. First... Family Pirate Party | WiiWare | 2009
Family Pirate Party was developed by Arc System Works Co., Ltd., and published by Aksys Games Localization, Inc. in 2009. Official description: "Get Ready To Plunder Like No Other! Daddy, Mommy, Sarah, and Billy make their return as pirates sailing the seas and skies! Roll the dice and sail through the islands to gather the treasures each island holds. The person with the most gold at the end wins! Family Pirate Party shines with its appealing cel-shaded graphics and endearing music. Challenge up to three other players, be they friends, the CPU, or both, for some four-player board-game fun. Do you have it in you to defeat your opponents and become the king of Family Pirate Party!?"So basically this is a shitty pirate themed board game. It's almost fun for about ten seconds, then quickly turns into a wash of tedium and despair. But it was indeed pirate related, with oceans and tropics, so it fit the theme. Arc System Works has made a LOT of games, but I'm not sure what possessed the company to produce this. Ex's rating: 4 out of 10 Ex's wife's rating: "Meh out of 10" Time spent playing: 25 minutesNext up was another 2009 Wii game... This was originally released in Germany in 2009, then published in the USA in 2010. This was developed by Sproing, and published by Zoo in the USA. Beach Fun Summer Challenge is a mini-sports game collection with a tropical island theme. It's the sort of shovelware crap that drowned the Wii library, and ruined its reputation with gamers too lazy to dig through this kind of junk for the true gems. The only fun we had at all with this, was via the mini-golf portion. But even that glitched up and froze the game at one point. While I appreciate the basic concept here, the execution was lacking to say the least. As expected!
Ex's rating: 2/10 Ex's wife's rating: "-3 out of 10" Time spent playing: 20 minutes

I spent an hour playing Test Drive Unlimited on 360 last night. The related aspect here, is this racer takes place entirely on the Hawaiian island of Oʻahu. Who wouldn't want to vacation there in the summer? This MOOR was developed by Eden Studios, and published by Atari SA, back in 2006.
I was hoping for a more evolved Outrun or such, but no not really. As it says on the cover art, this game focuses on Massively Open Online Racing. Being as it's 13 years old now, the online aspects of Test Drive Unlimited is a moot point. Still I was hoping for an arcade racing mode, or perhaps a single player story driven campaign mode, but nah. In single player you can drive all over the island, and take part in simple short races against the AI. All in the name of building up finances to buy better clothes for your avatar, cars for your garages, and houses with more garages. Without going into more detail, I'll just say the single player mode is shallow and lacking, and certainly didn't compel me to play further. I'm not even sure if you can "beat" this game in a traditional sense. It's quite obvious the focus here was meant to be racing around a tropical island against human opponents online. I will say though, the realistic 3D graphics are still rather good all these years later. And the driving mechanics/physics aren't too bad (not super great either). I could certainly see folks back in 2006 having a good time online with this one. But in 2019, this game's just a curiosity piece at best. Without being able to go online with it, there's just not much of a reason to play single player. Outside of touring the island I suppose. I will say though, as a result of playing Test Drive Unlimited, I learned a lot about Oʻahu. Now there's sand in the eye of the biased who say no one learns anything useful playing video games.

Haha, Beach Fun Summer Challenge sounds like one of those games that’d end up in the bargain bins of Walmart. I think every one of Nintendo’s games under the “Wii” moniker, like Wii Sports Resort in this case, spawned dozens of just terrible imitators.
I actually remember there being a few pretty good board games for the Wii, like Fortune Street. The Wiimote was a good fit for party games in general. I remember the Warioware title being a ton of fun in college.
Test Drive sounds half decent If you’re looking to virtually your Oahu in a fast car at least.
