Seeing the video game covers & remixes thread made me think about this. Why not just have a thread dedicated to cool cover art? I'll be back later with some of my own (as Ex would say).

This is a good idea for a thread; one dedicated to GOOD cover art. Or at least cover art you personally like. I've thought of making this thread myself before actually. But I'm glad toei made it instead. I can see myself coming here and posting cover art as I recall favorites. Here's one I've always loved, even though I don't care for the actual game: I always like the USA Grandia cover, because of what it implies... Seeing the sword, map, compass, and ancient artifact immediately made me think of going on a grand adventure. (Unfortunately the grand adventure turned out to be some school kids' scavenger hunt in local trash bins. )

These are my picks. There are definitely more I'm forgetting, but this seems enough for now:

@tsumuri
Those Saturn covers are really excellent.

A few more I really like... I will have to go through my games sometime and jog my memory for more.

That last one really pops!
Without words I love how Tsumuri's post is "non-US cover art is generally far superior" hehe.

Not so much favorite cover art as just some I've come across lately that I like (which I what this thread should be about, not just your ultimate favorites or whatever). Bad old Hokuto no Ken games have some really stylish covers. Here are my 3 favorites: The first one is the Genesis game that came out here as The Last Battle (with a hideous cover), the other two are the NES RPGs.

Without words I love how Tsumuri's post is "non-US cover art is generally far superior" hehe. That's not always the case, but it's definitely true for some of the games here. For example, the US cover for ICO is absolutely hideous: The European and Japanese covers have a beautiful de Chirico inspired piece of art instead. I also like how SH3 has that old school grain effect to it in the PAL version. The Japanese cover is alright and, once again, the US one is hideous: None of the The Darkness covers are terrible, but the Japanese version is my favorite by far. Whereas for Shinobi, both the US and Japanese covers are fine, but the PAL version is the best. The contrast between the red scarf and the black outfit is amazing. A few more examples. The Resident Evil 4 cover: The Japanese one seems wack to me. Bizarre how they just put some character models in there. The US cover is alright, at least everyone can understand at a glance what the game is about. The PAL cover is amazing. And again, Fatal Frame/ Project Zero: Here the US cover is insultingly bad, the PAL cover is OK-ish and the Japanese version is fairly good.

I guess because PS2 graphics were cutting edge at the time or something, the character models on covers thing was overdone for sure haha. What's always taken the cake for me though, is Suikoden's absurdly bad American cover: The game even came in a double sized disc case like some JRPG's at the time, despite it only being one disc. So I took that disc out and put the beautiful manual in front of a normal single case.
