Why did no one tell me about Nikke? It literally looks like The 3rd Birthday with dumbass ecchi anime character designs. You're even fighting weird monsters they're calling "The Rapture". I don't remember what the goofy name for the monsters was in The 3rd Birthday, but it was in the same vein. I just wish they'd used a character more like Eve. The anime protagonists look out of place in that environment, and I don't like the generic hentai waifu look at all personally, nor do I want forced cutesy voices in a shooter. But everything else seems like my jam, so I'm taking notes.
--Looked it up, it was "The Twisted" and "The High Ones".
EDIT - Wait, it's some kind of free-to-play deal...
EDIT 2, lol - Shows how out of touch I am with modern gaming. The cool sci-fi shooter footage I was looking at was apparently an April's Fool sequel announcement. It looked very 3rd Birthday-ish and I would buy it if it they actually make it, as a proper stand-alone game. The real, existing thing is a gacha mobile game where some kind of simplified shooting takes place.

Yeah haha. I'm not sure what else Nikke/Shift Up has done but it must always involve big butts. This must also be proof of how lucrative mobile/gacha can be over there or something, helping them fund something AAA level with Stellar Blade. I'm sure the Sony check helped. But everything we've seen and heard so far on Stellar Blade looks rather stellar for a first shot into bigger budget single player gaming. It was a similar deal with Neowiz and Lies of P. Lots of simpler looking games up until Lies of P dropped. Whatever South Korea is doing with their money, they must be managing it pretty well. I'll be eating good if more of them keep getting into gaming like this, which seems inevitable now.

It's so sad what mobile gaming became, a wasteland of hyper-monetization, pay-to-win, and micro-transactions galore. About a decade ago I was beating legitimately good, self-contained single purchase mobile games. So my point is even with the sexy waifus, I wouldn't play this particular mobile game, because I know how the milk-the-player formula works.
Edit: Anyway back on point

I still can't get a read on FF7Rebirth in Japan. Globally I think it's doing great though but perhaps not as good as REmake with the PS4's install base then.
That Stellar Blade demo stat may have been defeated if Rebrith was on PC day one... But then would the Stellar Blade demo still win if it was on PC day one too?...
Realistically I think it could just be excitement for a new IP coming into play here. Maybe some players still feel lost or confused about FF and where they can jump in. Who knows.

It's definitely the PS5 install base - I'd have it if I had that system. And probably FFXVI as well, despite my sometimes-disparaging remarks that it's not really a Final Fantasy.

Rebirth is the second part in a trilogy of remakes of a single game from 27 years ago. Of course it's not going to sell as much as an exciting new IP, the appeal is inherently more limited / hermetic.

That makes sense too. Even though FF7 is one of the most popular FF's, they may have alienated some legacy fans with its new real time ARPG style.
I do find it cute they're aiming to release the third one by 2027, the 30th anniversary.

Above average trailer. Looks like SQEX knows their demographic for Visions of Mana... older existing series' fans. Don't forget YouTube videos can be set to automatically translate Japanese audio into English captions. SQEX says this game is releasing "summer of 2024" worldwide, for PS4/5, XSX/S, and Steam.

New trailer released for Sand Land. I'm down for this one. Releases the 26th of this month in the west.
