Sarge: Yeah, a lot of JRPG's from that era outside of FF, I've only played once. Even my beloved Xenogears. Breath of Fire IV always pops up in my head too. But I'm definitely not going to add another RPG in rotation until I beat Shadow Hearts Covenant (and I still think I want to keep trying to play more of my PS2 JRPG's if I keep the momentum up). Blaster Master: Blasting Again ruled. In retrospect, it had some neat ideas that we got fleshed out even more in Metroid Prime. I remember it coming out in that weird late PSX life time too, as in I'm 99% sure it was $10 at release. I never finished it myself, but I recall it being really cool. I'd wager people who enjoy the Mega Man Legends games could get into this one. Ex: Soul Blazer was the last of that Quintet trilogy that I finally got around to in the mid 2010's or something. It was amazing and I like it a lot more than Illusion of Gaia. It's also fun to play through and pick out all the ActRaiser sounds, lol. So yeah a replay of that should be smooth sailing and a good time.

That's kinda why I'm wanting to avoid RPGs, at least until I beat Shadow Hearts. I'm trying to do a lot of the cleanup stuff right now. I've hit Nemeton Monastery, so if I don't get stuff done now, it won't happen. I figure I need a few more levels before taking on the final area regardless.

The difficulty and final boss do ramp up for sure. With all those "Key" items at your disposal to finally use that'll help a lot. I don't think I ever died in the final stretch, but it definitely felt like I had to put in more effort than the usual heh.

I may have identified a good one: Tomb Raider: Legend. I had a lot of fun with it back when it came out, and I've got the PC version now, so I can play a much prettier version to boot. It's also pretty short.

Oh wow, that's a curve ball. I'm pretty sure I played and beat both Legend and Underworld. Dug them both at the time... definitely curious how those hold up. For some reason the Anniversary/Remake in between these didn't grab though, but maybe I didn't give it enough time.
I've actually never beaten anything before Legend. Tomb Raider wasn't something I really got into on my own but it always seemed like I had a friend or two really into the series. So I was exposed to the early games a lot and remember them on some demo discs too. I remember one of them having enemy dinosaurs, lol. Nowadays, they still look very intriguing and I own the first four on GOG.

I haven't either, ha! I own a bunch of the prior games, but they're pretty stiff. When Crystal Dynamics stepped in, the games started playing more like modern Prince of Persia games, which are right up my alley. I think I've beaten everything in the main line from Legend onwards, including the most recent reboot.

In the land of Tomb Raider, I've only beaten Legend and Tomb Raider (2013 reboot). They were both decent games, but I think I enjoyed Legend a bit more.

Didn't you play Anniversary, or am I misremembering?

Didn't you play Anniversary, or am I misremembering? I own Anniversary on PSP, PC, and 360. But nope, haven't played it yet. My wife played through it though, maybe I mentioned that years back.

Ah, maybe that was it. It's a fun time, at any rate. Longer than Legend, apparently. I remember burning through it on PSP, so a replay of that as part of the glorious PC master race might be worthwhile, too.
(No, I haven't gotten that new computer, but those games are old enough that I shouldn't have any issues. Also, it's remarkable how much better Legend looks on PC; apparently the PS3 port used the PS2 version as its base.)
