Proof positive that Japanese gamers can act just as entitled as our own. I guess if I want to be charitable, the ones complaining don't understand why the updated Switch battery life is improved, but I mean, come on. This is the plight of an early adopter. For the record, the battery gains come from the new chipset. Functionally the same, but a die shrink from 20nm to (probably) 16nm. Improves power consumption, so if they keep the battery the same, they're going to get more juice out of it. nintendosoup.com/some-japanese-switch-owners-unhappy-with-updated-switch-model/

Yeah, all I could do was nod to this news. It was inevitable and should be nothing to freak out over. These under the hood changes have always been there for just about every console/handheld as they get produced for years at a time.

To be honest, I'm pleased as punch with this news. All these rumors of a "Pro" model, and now since that may not be the case, I can still cruise along with my original Switch. I don't use it handheld enough for battery life to be an issue, anyway.

I'm sure a "Pro" model thing will happen, but last I heard from some podcasts, even Nintendo themselves still don't know how they'd do one at the moment. They've put themselves in a weird position, with this shaping up to be the handheld/console hybrid, revisions were bound to happen. They can't ditch this Switch library though. I've heard barely any games ever utilized the full power of the New 3DS and the second joystick. I think in Nintendo's case a better model makes more sense than it did for Sony/MS this generation, but... it's still weird. Ideally I think something that's more powerful but fully backward compatible is the best solution and maybe it can enhance some of the current Switch games. But then there's the issue of how your Nintendo account is locked to one console, right? Then are developers going to be compromised by the original Switch holding newer games back?
Bit of a headache just thinking about this, heh.

Although I will say this is really bizarre and lends further credence to the image of gamers as entitled and whiny man-babies.
I'm still surprised the Joy-con drift problem hasn't' been addressed by Nintendo. It's the first time I can recall a Nintendo console or handheld having some sort of widespread failure. Both my left and right Joy cons have experienced it after owning my Switch for about a year now, which I had to fix with electrical contact cleaner. However, the way the analogue sticks work, the contacts that read inputs will eventually wear out, so no matter how much I clean them or properly care for it, my Joy cons will either eventually need to be replaced, or I'll have to find replacement sticks and install them. It's nuts, and while I think it's starting to catch on, it's something that could be a ticking time bomb for future Switch Lite owners.

I think the Switch Lite confirms that Nintendo sees the Switch as a handheld first and a console second, so I think maintaining a strong userbase is even more important than it would be if it were just a console. Nintendo doesn't have a 3DS to compensate for a system that becomes irrelevant, and I don't think they can afford a problem like that so closely after the Wii U.

Yeah, it's not a matter of if they're going to break, but when. Disappointing, to be sure. At least analog stick replacements are cheap, and nothing lasts forever. I know some folks are saying this is worse than the N64, but I dunno. I've seen some real bad N64 analog sticks.

some folks are saying this is worse than the N64 That's sounds awfully hyperbolic. One good game of Mario Party would ruin an N64 analog stick.

I present the hardest Contra challenge of them all...
Can you finish this trailer?
Legacy credentials or not, I think Nobuya needs an intervention. I think we even briefly mentioned Rogue Corps already a month back when it was announced at E3. But now that I played through Contra Rebirth, Blazing Chrome, and some Super Cyborg (seems solid), while thinking happy thoughts about all the old Contra's... man this new one just looks atrocious. Time for Contra to get the Metal Gear Survive treatment I guess, Konami wants their franchises to burn.
