I know FCEUX and Nestopia have this ability as well, but I fought with significant de-sync issues with the playback, so if it works well here, I'll definitely start using it when I get back into recording vids.

I've been gaming according to the "pics or it didn't happen" mindset, lol. Of course bandwidth is super cheap these days so I figure "Why not?"

Oh, I definitely understand that! The Contra run I have up is actually my fourth no-death run, because I didn't have it recorded for the first, and I had playback issues for the second and third.

So I've used Mesen for my last few emulated NES runs, and I've liked it. It seems to perform quite well, and as far as I can tell, is very accurate. Speaking of accuracy, I should probably test a couple of games in it that have given me trouble on the EDN8. I wonder if it's an issue with the mapper implementation or something with the translation patch itself? (The game is Shinsenden, and from what I've read in the patch notes, it may well be the latter.)

Yeah Mesen is legit. I even dumped NESticle for it.

Yeah Mesen is legit. I even dumped NESticle for it. Man, good ol' Nesticle. It was great for what it was in the day, but it got killed by other emulators eventually, even back in the day. jNES was my go-to in Windows, and LoopyNES for a while in DOS. (LoopyNES was wicked fast.)

I was all about jNES until Nestopia came out. I'd been using Nestopia forever (with the exception of using FCEUX purely for FDS stuff), but Mesen is superior all around.

Yeah, I've been using Nestopia (and then Nestopia UE) for a while now, but am trying to make the shift to Mesen for the accuracy. In most cases, there won't be much difference between the two, though.
I've had to occasionally use FCEUX for games that don't play nicely, like when I played the "classic" Titenic. Someone should play through that for this month's theme so I'm not the only one that has experienced it. The English in that game is absolutely hilarious.

NESticle is the oldest emulator I can remember, I think... hard to forget that name. lol

It's the oldest one that was quite good, at any rate. I remember iNES as well, but it wasn't the greatest, even if it did standardize the header format for NES ROMs.
