I'll second the Yakuza games, and yes, I bet Sarge, Xeogred and anayo would all probably like Splatter Master. In general the Simple series is mediocre to bad, but most of the games developed by Vingt-Et-Un Systems (a Japanese company, despite the French name) are worth checking out. Most of them are a little rough but worthwhile - Yakuza Fury (which is more like River City Ransom than Yakuza), Splatter Master, Zombie Virus...

Thanks for pointing Splatter Master out to me, I had no idea it existed. I'll keep my eyes peeled for it.

I remembered this one out of the blue tonight:
Remote Control Dandy SF is an action game developed by Sandlot and published by Konami, only in Japan. It's the sequel to this. In Remote Control Dandy SF you control giant robots with a remote control, similar to Robot Alchemic Drive. There's no English fan translation, but you could figure out how to play it regardless.

I've read about this game somewhere, I think, but had completely forgotten about it. I do remember Robot Alchemic Drive, though. Haven't played it, for better or worse. How was that game?

Haven't played it, for better or worse. How was that game? I haven't finished it, but the bit I played was fun. Very unique game, the kind of stuff we never saw post PS2. Edit: Good candidate for Mech Madness next year.

I've put a few hours into Dynasty Tactics and it has set a good first impression. Koei strategy games were never going to be the most popular things, but this one seems to be especially forgotten. I only know about it thanks to an 11 old year article. I like my tactics games to be on the more challenging side, and this has delivered so far. You can "steal" named generals from the enemy using this really unique combo system. I haven't seen anything like it before. Overworld map is something like Dragon Force, where you're meant to capture units and buildings, except it is not in real time here. The game follows the RotK story, but it looks like you can change the course of the plot depending on certain overworld decisions. Battles are anywhere from 3 vs 3 to 8 vs 8 or so, with your generals represented as these Dynasty Warriors style "chess pieces". But once you attack, the game often switches to these short scenes where your armies fight it out. It's a nice touch, and I imagine it's what a 3D Langrisser would look like. It's not an overly complicated game, it explains mechanics well, and battles are pretty fast paced. There is more to mention as it is a pretty deep game, but I think there's a lot of fun to be had here if you like challenging tactics games.
There's also Dynasty Tactics 2, which I haven't gotten to yet.

You know, I vaguely remember reading some reviews of this back in the day, but don't remember much otherwise. The comparison to Langrisser is certainly intriguing, though!
Wait a sec... now I'm wondering if I have a copy of this.
*checks collection*
Nope, I'm thinking of Kessen, another Koei strategy game. I may keep an eye out for this one, as it seems to have been quite well received, especially for Koei's oeuvre.
