March's theme is all about mechs. A mech being a robotic machine that is controlled by a person residing within said robotic machine. Mechs come in varying sizes; it could be a powered exoskeleton or a humongous death goliath. A video is worth a thousand words: This month let's all play games that utilize protagonists piloting mechs! If you would like mech recommendations for any of your favorite platforms, just let us know.

I'll tell you one title I'm absolutely going to play, just for old times' sake: Still trying to figure out how far back I'm going to run on MechWarrior stuff. I'm down to MW2 or MW4, but I don't know which variants I want to run. MW2 has the original, Ghost Bear's Legacy, and Mercenaries. MW4 also has its own Mercenaries variant.

A worthy endeavor Sarge, to see if it lives up to your memories. I've got ten games picked out for this theme, and I doubt I'll be able to beat them all before the end of the month. But I've got no lack of gusto for this theme. The first game I plan to start playing for Mech Madness this weekend, is the newest of the bunch I've picked out: (2006 release. Yes it includes a single player campaign.) All the other choices I've narrowed are older.

I'm trying to remember if the bro picked up a copy of Chromehounds.
At any rate, for some reason I thought MechWarrior 4 was newer. 2000? Geez, it's 20 years old! (And I feel old, again.)

Chainsaw Bilqis made me want to check out BRAHMA Force for sure. I wonder what the best PSX era Armored Core is as well, I don't think I've touched those in 20 some years and that could be interesting. And MechWarrior is on PSX too? There are two games I've had in the plans for awhile though. But it would be cool to sample some of this other stuff.

Armored Core is a little clunky at times, but my brother played the mess out of the first and third games on there.
If I do AC, it'll likely be a more modern entry. Everything up to For Answer on PS3/360 is fair game.
Also, I might also consider a different From Software game... Metal Wolf Chaos. Via the XD version, which is bare-bones enough to count, I think.

Yeah, I'm still a big on a PSX kick myself after Tron Bonne, Tomb Raider, and Vagrant Story. The PS2 Armored Core's are probably the ones to go with, though I guess Demon's Souls boss Miyazaki's first directed game was Armored Core: For Answer (2008). Not that I expect it to be different than the norm, but who knows. I didn't like 4 much but I'm up for trying that one out someday.

I just know I have access to the vast majority of them 'cause my brother was a mech head. I've even got Heavy Gear 1/2, Shogo, Earthsiege 1/2, MechCommander... lots of options. This just reminds me that I wish GOG would get MW2 up on there. EDIT: Oh, right, this one counts, too. Was reading the story, and the Arm side consists of human-piloted vehicles, which makes the Commander unit a mech.

So does anyone have some Genesis / Mega Drive mecha recs? Besides Ranger X! I had to spill the beans, but that's the other game besides Front Mission 3 that I've had long planned for the month so far. But yeah, if there's more Genesis stuff I'd be curious.

Does Herzog Zwei count? I haven't looked to see if that's robots or mechs.
EDIT: Survey says yep, it's a mech. I haven't played much of it, but it's one of the progenitors of the RTS genre.
