Urgh, still trying to figure out something to play for this theme. Installing Monkey Island 2 Special Edition right now, but I may just roll with the original on the tablet. I've found that to be a pretty good way to play point-and-click adventure games - I finished Fate of Atlantis, The Dig, and even Lands of Lore that way.

We'll see if I stick with it, but I started playing something a little different than intended - Flight of the Amazon Queen, an adventure game that does a reasonable job of trying to capture the LucasArts spirit. I always thought it was pretty neat from the shareware version I tried back in the day, but I never pushed through to the end. I'm pretty sure it's one of the freebie games on GOG, along with Beneath a Steel Sky, another adventure game I'd like to play through eventually.

My temperature here is that PC gaming isn't HRG's favorite platform, hah.
And I include myself in that. I didn't even realize until this week that half my GOG stuff and the list I posted on the first page, were actually 2000's PC games. Those might be more my jam. It would be weird to change the rules now though at this stage. But maybe next time that would work better for others. Unless we just all got super busy this month.
Dosbox is great but I do think early 90's PC gaming is going to be like 1st/2nd gen gaming to me. Not anything I really seek out much. This month was a reminder of that.
Anyways, I still have a few games I want to check out: - Gorky 17 (1999) - Heroes of Might & Magic 3 (1999) - Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (1999) - Torin's Passage (1995)
I still have Ultima Underworld II (1992) in my back pocket. But I already loved the first game, so I know I'll like this one. I was just hoping to get out of my comfort zone. Sadly this month, my own dang theme, was a reminder that maybe I'm not into a lot of this era. I think 2000's PC gaming will go better with me.

Oh, I definitely get into PC gaming grooves... but I honestly haven't found much of anything outside of Metroid Dread. I think I'm in one of my gaming doldrums.

I finally remembered why I couldn't get my d-pad to work with Heretic. You have to change the controller mode to FCS or CH-whatever for it to read the d-pad "hats". Then it's a matter of remapping like I was doing with Ctrl+F1. It's definitely some DOOM-engine stuff, ha! It'll be interesting to see if this captures my interest.

It's medieval Doom heh, you'll probably dig it.
I'll be curious if you guys check out Hexen since that one wasn't really my jam...

I messed around with the Saturn version of Hexen long ago, just out of curiosity. It was intriguing, but I wasn't compelled to really play it.

I've got Hexen on the Saturn as well, given that I downloaded so much for the Fenrir. Haven't played it yet, though.

I'm still curious about Hexen II. That one is on the Quake engine, which I think would be a lot better for what it was going for.

One more stage down tonight. It's definitely medieval-flavored DOOM. I can see the analogs with the weapons to DOOM: the regular staff is a pistol, the crossbow is actually a lot like the shotgun, I think the crab shot thing is like the minigun, perhaps? Some twists, but fairly easy to parse eventually. I don't know that it's grabbing me quite like the original DOOM did, but what's here is certainly still strong material. Oh, and I really, really need to boost the brightness. Way too dark on my set.
