Wow. The graphics still look really appealing... but I didn't expect such a fall from grace.

I just played the first stage of the SNES version of Sparkster. It's already WAYYY better.

I wouldn't say I liked this as much as Ex. Actively didn't like a lot of the music (which was surprising), lot of annoying death pits or lava/chase sequences that get you killed instantly when this isn't exactly the most intricate platformer controls wise, and dang did it overstay its welcome in the long run near the end lol. The two shmup levels were probably my favorites actually and had some good tunes. I did think it was amusing that there were tons of ideas ripped straight out of Sonic. I guess this was Konami's take on that formula with their own spin, but I wouldn't say it worked all that well to me. I'll probably stop here with this series.
EDIT: Actually, the SNES game does look pretty cool. I get the vibe maybe I'd like the "feel" of that one more. I'll wait to see Ex's full review.

Surprised you didn't enjoy RKA more than you did, but as usual I'm glad us regulars have diverging opinions in general, as it keeps discussion varied. You definitely should NOT play the Genesis sequel. I have stronger hopes for the SNES sequel, maybe tomorrow I'll have enough time to play through it.

It felt like more of a cluster than even Hard Corps to me, in a strange way. And it just seemed like it had no business trying to be extra platformery at times haha. But yeah, nothing too bad.

Well if things go to plan I'll knock out the SNES version of Sparkster this evening, we'll see how it fairs.

I played through the first level of U.N. Squadron, which means I've officially participated in this theme.
Really though, it played well, and I would like to play through the whole game if I can get my mind back on games before long.

I forgot to weigh in on U.N. Squadron. It's a fun game, definitely on the positive side of the ledger as far as shooters go. I like the SNES version quite a bit - it has a bit of a different flavor from the also-good arcade version. The followup, Carrier Air Wing, is a miss for me, though.

I get the vibe we all kind of agree Capcom were generally a little weaker on the arcade front? I mean I'm no expert on that side of their catalog, but a lot of the pre-NES stuff and then through the 90's, nothing major stands out to me. But yeah I guess people loved Strider and stuff.
