bosh I hadn't thought of the idea of an indoor hammock for portable gaming. That might be great actually. I typically use a recliner. Nice to see another Vita fan on HRG. I'm very invested in the platform. I own an OLED and LCD model, with about 130 physical games for it (many imports). I consider the Vita the last true dedicated portable. You definitely beat me on the number of physical games, but similar I have an OLED and a LCD model. Got worried one day what would happen if it broke so picked up a second one.
One of my favorite systems of all time and its amazing almost a decade later this thing still plays and feels new. Battery life on these devices are crazy, just keeps performing and can drop in and out of sleep mode without really any loss in percent.

You definitely beat me on the number of physical games A fair chunk of my Vita library is imports so that pads stuff a bit. And I started collecting for Vita when the games were originally releasing, so they weren't as expensive as many have become now. It would be daunting to try to build that library starting in 2022. Also, I just realized the Vita is official retro by HRG standards now. It released in 2012, so it's a decade old. That means the 2012 Vita games released with it are HRG sanctioned now as well. My head still thinks of the Vita as "modern" but a decade old in video game tech is certainly not modern. I guess it feels that way because its closest comparable competitor the Vita II Switch only marginally looks better graphically.
That's the same reason I bought the LCD model as well. OLED screen looks incredible but it's not necessarily as future proof as the LCD screen.
I'll also mention I love the 3DS too, but for different reasons than the Vita. My physical 3DS library is substantial as well. I own a 3DS XL, New 2DS XL, and a 2DS. I think the 2DS is the best of those for actual portability. It's built like a tank and is super ergonomic. However my aging eyes appreciate the larger screens of the XL units. Man the 3DS released in 2011 so it's HRG compliant now as well.

I'm really glad I got that Samus 3DS XL.
(not my pic, I wish!)

I've said this a bunch of times, but the Vita is a system I want to love, but there just aren't enough games on it for my particular tastes. If I were a huge anime game fan, particularly the B-tier RPGs it specializes in, I'd probably adore it.
Also, while it might not seem like the Switch is much more powerful, it pretty handily bests it, especially on the GPU side. Now, how much of that comes down to the smaller screen on Vita and the pared-back details being less important, I don't know. But I have to think porting something like Doom Eternal just wouldn't work on the Vita - it barely squeaks in on the Switch. It still really disappoints me, though, that Sony mismanaged the system so badly.

The Vita's library has a large amount of variety. But it is true that a considerable swath of the Vita's library falls under "weeaboo" games. As a bit of a weeaboo that worked to entice my wallet. If you're not into Japanese imports, there's still fun domestic stuff on the Vita, but a limited amount depending on the genre. I understand that the Switch is technically more powerful than the Vita. What I'm saying is, the vast majority of the Switch's games are not Doom Eternal caliber, that's an outlier. The vast majority of the Switch's games to me look no more impressive (aesthetically/graphically) than what can be found on the Vita. Actually, quite a few Vita games were ported to Switch now that I think about it. Also, if anyone wants to play an amazing-looking (and fun) FPS on Vita, give Killzone: Mercenary a playthrough. You may be surprised at how impressive a nine year old handheld FPS can look. Also while I firmly believe Vita > Switch (for many reasons) I don't mean to disparage the Switch. I comprehend why so many people enjoy the platform.

Oh, I know the Vita isn't a slouch, but I've played some very impressive Switch games that I just don't know would work on Vita. I think power-wise, the Vita sits somewhere between PS2 and PS3, whereas the Switch is something between PS3 and PS4. But at the same time, I get your point about not seeming like a huge bump - I've been making that argument myself for a while now, that each generational increase has been less and less impressive.

I agree the Vita is a PlayStation 2½, just as the PSP was a PlayStation 1½.

Yah I was just thinking the other day that P4G was a decade old now and that really threw me for a loop. Was a solid release year as well with MGS collection, Uncharted, Hot Shots Golf (Played way to much of this), Wipeout...etc. I still think of it as a modern device as well, and honestly it still looks sleek and pretty good design in this day and age.
I love the 3DS also, the XL is a great device and have 2DS also. I got really lucky I built up most of that library right before game prices started getting crazy. I do wish the XL lasted slightly longer for work trip flights but thats never an issue at home were I mainly play it.

Always up to try something new.

I agree the Vita is a PlayStation 2½, just as the PSP was a PlayStation 1½. Back in the day I remember thinking my PSP was like a souped-up Sega Dreamcast.
