Not much more. The main difference, as I recall, is that enemies have a ton more health, which just slows things down.

I'm guessing with these optimizations, more enemies could be put on screen - sounds like there's also a little headroom if the combo system was revised some.

I do like the idea of infinitely procedurally generated stages in platformers. As long as they are solvable and varying enough. Mega Man is a good candidate, as is Bionic Commando NES. Or like an F-Zero track that is unique every time you race it. Maybe with the advances in AI we've seen lately, more hackers will do stuff like that. I'm all for it.

I've been planning to check that out someday, it's been in the works for awhile. The PSX version is definitely one of the more unique ports out there worth playing. Replaying it in a little more smoothed out way will be fun sometime, but I did really enjoy the grit of the original (played via DuckStation to be fair though). It was like going back to 1994 and how I felt playing the original Doom in its 320x240 glory with a rollerball mouse. lol
