Pretty rad seeing the Atari 2600 stuff, given the limitations. There's actually a decent chess game on 2600 called Video Chess: It's surprisingly decent with challenging AI given the hardware limitations.

Yeah I've got that one alongside some other early checkers and backgammon titles. Atari Chess is pretty solid, just don't crank up the difficulty too high or the computer takes an eternity to make a move!

Yakuman is fun Game Boy launch title.... but can you image playing this on the original green&black unlit brick hardware?? Brutal.

I respect the hustle. It was smart to release it under a different brand, too. Keep Capcom's name clean. If Capcom's president had been a little too enthusiastic about the game, Capcom might have turned into a strip mahjong company and we would have missed out on a lot.

If Capcom's president had been a little too enthusiastic about the game, Capcom might have turned into a strip mahjong company and we would have missed out on a lot. In total Capcom produced four strip mahjong games that Yuga published for them:
Mahjong Gakuen (1988) Mahjong Gakuen 2 Gakuen-chou No Fukushuu (1988) Super Mahjong Marukin-Ban (1990) Super Marukin-Ban (1990) Eventually Capcom's normal stuff sold well enough they got out of the skin game.

I’ve wanted to learn how to play Go and Mahjong for some time. Seems like, in general, the Clubhouse game on Switch is the way to go to learn? Any alternatives on retro consoles like on Gameboy, Game Gear, Wonderswan, or Neo Geo Pocket?

I’ve wanted to learn how to play Go and Mahjong for some time. Seems like, in general, the Clubhouse game on Switch is the way to go to learn? Any alternatives on retro consoles like on Gameboy, Game Gear, Wonderswan, or Neo Geo Pocket? Yes I'd certainly pick up Clubhouse Games and THE Table Game (go is only on the latter). There are tons of great retro "tables games" video games, but note that they don't contain tutorials. They're designed for people who already knew how to play IRL. So, yeah, this is one area where starting modern and working your way back is your best bet. (Speaking of "IRL" -- you may just want to learn how to play these in the analog sense first. In the past couple of years I've acquired a mahjong set, shogi board, go board, othello board, and deck of Nintendo-brand hanafuda cards)
