In 2017, Jason Schreier asked Tetsuya Takahashi about disc 2 of Xenogears. People often say his team ran out of money (sometimes pointing the finger at FF8 stealing the resources), but turns out they were just running out of time and Square wanted him to end the game after disc 1. Thankfully he got his way and did disc 2 the way it is. People knock on it all the time, it is a big "what if", but considering disc 1 is a good 50 some hours of content, I don't mind the massive context dump in disc 2 since the story is excellent and am glad it told a complete arc. kotaku.com/the-real-story-behind-xenogears-unfinished-disc-2-1796151112

Guess I should correct myself, I beat Xenogears at 50h 12m. I'd wager about 40 of that was the first disc and another 10 for the second disc. There is certainly still some "game" and stuff to do on the second disc. I just recall one major dungeon that was... in text and glossed over. You can literally think like, a visual novel for how they start talking through story beats. A key dungeon and story moment that would have been awesome, like I think the main mecha gets upgraded or something. It's been awhile though. Really to be clear though, even prior to disc 2, Xenogears is very text heavy from start to finish. If there's any major late game issue I have, is that one of the characters gets a sword which gives them a bunch of cool new moves, but you only get to use it through like one dungeon or something. The mecha battles end up dominating the back half of the game, but I actually liked the character battles and combo system more.
One thing is for sure, growing up I watched two buddies play through portions of Xenogears and almost slipped into a coma in both experiences. It's so funny how boring this game is to watch. But playing it, it's one of my all time favorite JRPG's. Imperfect but I love what it went for and many things about it.

Yeah, a little bit, but not a ton.
And yes, most of the content is on the first disc.

Some cool insight into FF8 from its veteran devs:

Xeogred I listened to that over the weekend. I don't have any nostalgia for the Amiga, but in my late teens I would go online and listen to Commodore 64 and Amiga soundtracks cause of how cool they sounded and I discovered this: I even burned it onto a music CD and would listen to it in my car. When it began playing during the interview I realized, "Wait, that's the guy who made the Turrican song?" It's cool to finally see the face behind the music!

Yeah, I could see jamming to that riding down the road.

Heck, I still haven't even played the Amiga originals myself either and I've been a fan of those OST's for years now! This older album still slaps:

linkAVGN has become as much a short film anthology as a series of videos about games, and this was a good one. I had no idea there was an (apparently) good Capcom Spawn game on the Dreamcast. I need to try that one. It seems like pure '90s arcade action.
