Sonic Colors is bad ass man. It's the best 3D Sonic game period. Incredibly underrated. I loved it.
You could always swap the teal shell to the working N64 (worse case scenario).

You're not the first person I've heard praise Sonic Colors. I really liked Sonic as a kid, so much so that Sonic's decline in the following decades bummed me out. So maybe this will make up for it. I'll probably end up doing what you said and swapping guts on those N64's. According to google the shiny one is called "Ice Blue" and it's somewhat rare.

Do they make replacement pin connectors for N64s? Maybe that would do the trick.

For the record, I was talking about Sonic Colors for Wii being so amazing. I've also beaten the DS version, and it was good, but not nearly as good as the Wii version.

Do they make replacement pin connectors for N64s? Maybe that would do the trick. Apparently it's quite easy to remove the cartridge pins from the motherboard. However, due to a lack of demand there don't seem to be an abundance of replacement pins like there are for the NES. It appears my best bet would be to remove the pins from the motherboard so as to clean them more thoroughly without leaking any cleaning fluid elsewhere on the N64's internals.

anayo You'll be just fine without the manual, the game explains everything. That is a killer summer vacation for just $2. Super relaxing experience*, and tells a great story at your own pace. *Except for the abyssal trenches. Good luck relaxing down there.

Otherwise I may have left it at the thrift store.

I found some interesting stuff in our local retro store a town over. They were having a sale on a lot of stuff, but of course, most of the console stuff was rather picked over, as usual. However, handhelds continue to be a source of intrigue.
Some of this is semi-junk, some not, but hey, I was intrigued. I snagged:
Dr. Franken (GB) Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 2 (GB) (box + manual) Bart vs. the Juggernauts (GB) Wings of Fury (GBC) Dexterity (GB) Samurai Jack (GBA) (complete) Onimusha Tactics (GBA) New Super Luigi U (Wii U)
...and the most interesting, the Super 7 in 1 for Game Boy. Oh yes. I don't actually think I own any pirate carts, but I do now! This one has the following on it, according to the label:
Street Fighter III Milon's Castle Mickey Mouse IV Tale Spin Zen Ninja Leathal Weapon Tumble Pop
Yes, that is how they are listed. What are they really, though? Inquiring minds want to know! Or I did, anyway. So...
- "Street Fighter III" is actually the Japanese version of Raging Fighter, known as Outburst there. It's... not that great. - Milon's Secret Castle, as you'd expect. - Mickey Mouse IV is actually just that, which came out over here as The Real Ghostbusters, and in Europe as Garfield. I know, crazy! - TaleSpin, yep. - Zen: Intergalactic Ninja, as you'd guess. - Lethal Weapon, which seems to be a port of the NES game of the same name. - And now Tumblepop.
I find the fact that only one game was misrepresented absolutely fascinating. I also actually like this lineup quite a bit!
Anyway, the whole shebang set me back around $45, much of which was Super Luigi U. I'm okay with that.
