On that note, it pains me GREATLY to consider this but I think I might just start using my Buffalo SNES pad for Sega emulation too. I asked all over RB for awhile and nobody ever really seems to have an idea on good Genesis styled alternatives, unless some USB adapters exist and I can somehow still find some old controllers in good condition... I have a Hyperkin 6-button pad but the quality just isn't that great at all. Realistically the SNES controller can cover even a 6-pad just fine, but yeah it might feel a bit weird if I do this haha. One of those USB Saturn pads might just be right for Genesis emulation. I have cheap knock-off I bought from a friend, which works well enough for me. I'm not really particular about these things though, I mostly use the basic PS2-style Logitech pads for most emulation, though they tend to break easily.

I think once you use the power of the Buffalo, it's been hard to go back!
I was using some 2-port USB PS2 adapter for nearly a decade, got it back when Play-Asia had some weirder stuff like that. But nowadays all these replicas are so widely available. The Buffalo controller is made in Japan (not China!) and it almost feels like a v2.0 refinement of the original SNES controller, it just feels amazing and more sturdier. It doesn't have the US concave Y and X buttons that I grew up on, but I got used to the rounded buttons immediately.
And now all the modern controllers are easily usable too. The Xbox One controller is really good and a big improvement over the 360 pad to me, everything just feels even better and the d-pad is nicer. The Dualshock 4 is nice along with Nintendo's Pro controllers.
But yeah it's cool to try and replicate the original experience with controllers. I've considered trying that Saturn controller route.

I use SNES/360/PSX-styled controllers for Genesis stuff anyway. Most games are just three buttons, so I'll just map to X/A/B on a 360 pad for A/B/C, and often just use the Y button for Start.
I also have an old Saitek DInput pad that sits at work, unused for the last few years. It's got a great d-pad on it.
Really, they need a Buffalo pad for the Switch. I'd pay good money for something that has a better d-pad than this 8bitdo SN30 Pro.

I asked all over RB for awhile and nobody ever really seems to have an idea on good Genesis styled alternatives Well there's a shocker. If you want a true authentic experience, get a real Genesis controller and use a USB adapter. I know you said you didn't like Hyperkin, but the GN6 gets good reviews. There's a suite of pads that is getting good reviews, it includes a Genesis style controller.
For PS1 and Saturn, I tend to use a PlayStation One controller and a USB adapter. If not that, a 360 controller and adapter.

It seems like the GN6 is the variant I purchased last year... can't say I'm that impressed with my experience. Cheap quality, average d-pad, and one or two of the buttons are kind of sticky. Maybe I could try ordering another one or go for that USB adapter.
One controller I really want to get is a classic PS1 controller without the dualshocks someday just for the heck of it, I love those and probably haven't held one in like 20 years.
