Have you played any of the Rainbow Six games and or what are your favorite tactical shooters? I believe I played the third one briefly - Raven Shield - don't remember much though. I used to play Hidden & Dangerous and SWAT 3 too. Admittedly though, while I enjoyed playing them occasionally, I really never made much progress in any of them, as they are rather challenging games and, as a kid, I didn't really have the patience for them. I did beat Rogue Trooper a couple of years ago and that's a pretty fun game. It's a TPS though. But my honest answer would be Republic Commando as it was very light on the tactics department and easy to pick up. Of course, being a major SW fan back then really helped, too. How come? I really wanted to play that Wolfenstein game next year.

It was a strange combination of everything. I tried playing it on the 360. The headbob was atrocious (I hate when games don't let you configure this) and then it has this weird vision ability I recall you having to use constantly, that overlays this neon blue/green tint over everything. Topped off with a bad framerate on the 360 probably. All the ingredients added up to the first FPS to ever make me feel sick.
BARF! Give it a few minutes to checkout the running headbob action. DOUBLE BARF!!!
I tried playing a cracked version of the PC release (think it's in licensing hell and not available digitally anywhere), so with this it looked smoother and I think I was able to edit the walk speed and headbob, but eh... got bored after like an hour. Raven's next game Singularity (2010) I really enjoyed a lot though.

I did beat Rogue Trooper a couple of years ago and that's a pretty fun game. It's a TPS though. I keep meaning to play that! I've had it on OG Xbox forever. I wish we'd have an OG Xbox TR sometime this year. I've got so many games for that system I've not even cracked open yet.

53. Mega Man Zero* (DS) [MMZC] 54. Mega Man Zero 2* (DS) [MMZC] 55. Mega Man Zero 3* (DS) [MMZC]
2h 25m
Thought I was nearing the end, however the 3 levels after the initial 4 were just an intermission in between another 4! So it has the classic 8 "main" levels and bosses at least. Regardless, this still ended up being about 20 minutes shorter than 2 for me. It only had two final levels, so the count might be the same as 2's overall. I combined my full game time with 1 (normal playthrough for a bit then finished easy mode) for a total of 3h 26m, but that might confuse me when I look back on these down the road haha.
Anyways, I still think Zero 2 is the best so far. I had a few nitpicks with Zero 3, the music didn't stand out as much nor did the level design. Didn't like the Elf system in this one so I'm hoping it changes again in Zero 4. The story ramps up and gets cooler though. It was the hardest one up to this point upfront... but the back half was a literal cakewalk and joke. In this one you can't even get a full 4 sub-tanks but are limited to a max of 2, outside of the disposable Elves. Not like it matters, I never used a single sub-tank once or the health Elves. The thing with the Zero games is that you only have three elemental types, Electric, Fire, and Ice... so it's easy to quickly cycle through these in the bosses to figure out their weakness. Then in Zero 3, you even get double jump which makes your control so insane you're basically unstoppable if you're good with the X styled dashing and all that. I didn't die once on the final stage through the 8 bosses rush and then the 3 final fight battles might be one of the easiest in the entire franchise, the final third form only hit me ONCE! It was almost painful how easy it was haha. I'm pretty good at the X games, but Sigma is never a pushover outside of X2... this was ridiculously easy. I don't even think I had my health fully upgraded either... though I had the crazy double health upgrade you get in the Zero's.
I'm guessing Zero 4 will go the same route. Tough upfront, but really easy as it goes. Overall it's not like I initially recall having a hard time with these anyways when I played them years ago, so I'm not super surprised to be cruising through them again. Still maybe tough for newbies. And still loads of fun either way.
So as it still stands... ZX Advent is tougher than these! And I'd probably put some others above them too, like X6 and Mega Man & Bass.

ZX Advent is tougher than these! And I'd probably put some others above them too, like X6 and Mega Man & Bass. I'm surprised to read that. I know time can distort memories, amplifying or degenerating facts into hyperbolisms. In that regard I remember the Zero series being crazy hard. Maybe because the first Zero was so difficult? Are you saying ZX Advent is harder than that one too?

I just want to say Zero 1 is unfairly broken. So it's a different kind of hard. You either: 1) must attempt the game a few times over until you can nearly master it and do one full clean run without a game over or 2) spend hours and hours grinding lives and whatever else you might need (when I googled around for some grinding spots, someone literally said it took them like 2 hours to get 1-2 lives or something) 2b) There are something like 5 lives in the game you can pickup but they never respawn afterwards I guess you could manually reset your game if you ever die but that's kind of lame. Maybe the difficulty lets off when you get some upgrades like the sequels. But from dying early on in the game and with the lack of restocking lives after a game over, I didn't really stick around long enough to find out before jumping into the easy mode. I also don't think it had the lava/spike damage shields you can get in the sequels either, so that makes it tougher as well. I don't even really know how to explain it, just something you'll have to experience again someday to really see it. Nothing else quite like its wacky design in the rest of the series. In the others you can die a few times but your crystals and stuff still carry over, though that's not the case if you get a game over. I got a few early on in 3 but still getting a game over and doing "Continue" just simply lets you retry the level again with a nice set of 2 lives. Basically like the rest of the entire franchise! In Zero 1, getting a game over means you are permanently stuck at 0 lives for the rest of the game, while your rank is completely sunk locking you out of a bunch of abilities, and you're thrust into forced story event levels even if you didn't finish some missions yet, so if you wanted to grind or try and find some sub-tanks/power-ups, you can't! Thinking back, that's how I beat Zero 1 originally since there was no easy mode then haha. I specifically remember grinding for a long stretch to upgrade some Elves and stock up on lives or something. That left a sour taste. Easy Mode/Fully Powered Up makes it a joke for sure though, so I guess if you've got 10 hours to spare for grinding Zero 1 can be a cake walk. But I don't think ZX Advent let's you cheese it like that, so it's harder in a way. Don't know if any of that made sense. ZX Advent is easily the hardest of these and Zero 1 is just annoyingly designed. lol
Specifically, the bosses have been pretty damn easy in the Zero games. But that's what was so tough in ZX Advent to me and really stood out. They were so dynamic with huge arenas, tons of death traps and pits for several of them, etc, man it was crazy and awesome. The levels were never an issue except that insane last one haha.

Beat Armored Warriors for the last of this month's TR at Racketboy. I liked it; not as much as some of the Capcom brawlers, but despite featuring mechs, the game maintains a blistering pace. I'd recommend this one to mech and non-mech fans alike. EDIT: Finished another. I've never even heard of this one, but it popped up on World of Longplays: Zero Team. The game feels a bit like perhaps Final Fight crossed with Crime Fighters; the sprites are a bit smaller, and the combat feels pretty chunky (in a good way). There's not a ton of moves; you get your usual grab and knee or throw, a combo punch, and a clear-out attack. You can also hold up or down to modify your combo and send your player airborne. That ends up being useful to take you out of the range of enemies. Characters feel somewhat different, although not enough to make it completely worthwhile. The girl's combo seemed the best, as she leaps airborne and then blasts enemies back down to the ground, and it takes off big chunks of life. The girl also plays the part of significant sex appeal, more so than usual. Oh, and the enemies explode into fiery, meaty gibs when you kill them. It's all rather bonkers, honestly. I'll give this one a 7/10. Dang, knew I'd seen Seibu Kaihatsu's name somewhere. They're the devs of Raiden.

"Justice...? JUSTICE?! Weil...YOU FOOL!!! I never cared about justice, and I don't recall ever calling myself a hero!!
I have always ONLY fought for the people that I believe in, and I will not hesitate...!
For if an enemy appears in front of me...I WILL DESTROY IT!!!
- Zero
The grand finale!
+ Seemed harder than 3-4 all around, tougher to upgrade your Cyber Elf unless you grind a lot (I did at the end for about 10 minutes in one spot to fully upgrade the Cyber Elf afterwards). + Hard final level and the boss rush beefed up the bosses even more.
+ One of the best final boss fights/themes in the entire series, ALSO, very hard. Way harder than the final boss battles in Zero 1-3/ZX Advent. I used 3 sub-tanks for this one and was sweating! A death after using those sub-tanks would have been fatal.
+ Amazing music, good length, easier EX Skill system? This one is more like Zero's upgrades in X4-X6 where he gets new moves with the Z-Saber. The 3 elements from Zero 1-3 are no longer here. Thus also making the bosses harder to figure out. + A cool mostly continual singular story arc across all four games with a definitive ending that completely closes this chapter off. Blows the ZX story/characters out of the water by a long shot.
- More bloat with some weird crafting system and enemy parts drops. Got some recipes for some items from NPC's. They mostly change up your Head, Body, and Legs for some additional abilities. - The new Zero Knuckle weapon I used... once for a keycard and then again to pull some switches in one of the last levels. I also didn't care for the new "hanging" gimmick, though it made for some interesting spikey puzzle platforming.
- Weird weather system that I never touched once. Kind of like Zero 3's Cyberspace, it just seemed pointless. - You only have one Cyber Elf in this one and use E-Crystals to upgrade it. This kind of diminishes the fun in exploring the levels for the Cyber Elves like in Zero 1-3. I kind of missed that.
Overall I think I like Zero 2 and Zero 3 the most, with Zero 4 having some epic peaks of awesomeness. Once you get over the weird beginnings of the first game though, it's an incredible set of 8-9/10 games. Might even put these above Metroid Zero Mission (I like Metroid NES more anywas) and the GBA Castlevania's, as my favorite GBA action/platformers. I still like OG Mega Man and X even more, but the Zero series is utterly legit. It's crazy how little talk there is of these games online and how forgotten they seem to have become. Don't skip out on these! AMAZING!
I need to find some downloads of all these OST's. And 4 apparently has some official "Remastered" arrangement I'm hearing on YT that rocks, kind of sounds like a "what if Zero 4 was on the PSX".
THE (replay) SAGA CONTINUES JULY 24th BOIS!

Sarge There's a bunch of different versions of Zero Team, some with different level order, more weapons and other assorted differences. Which one did you play?

Oh, right, that's true. I used the Zero Team 2000 version. Apparently the base game wasn't emulated properly in the version of MAME I was using. Not sure if that's been fixed in more recent revisions.
