I believe that makes 3 people who played and finished Koudelka because of this September theme. That's quite impressive. These boards are doing God's work. I'm going to double down hard on finishing Covenant now for real. Heh, that's the problem with lenghty JRPGs: you really can't slog through them if you're not enjoying yourself. It's a losing battle.

I'm running into that with a modern RPG right now, although I've enjoyed myself to this point. The problem is that now, to do the optional stuff at the end, I need to level up and complete a bunch of side quests...
A break is definitely in order; no way am I jumping into another lengthy RPG now, so I figure I'll dive into the October Horror month with some real retro stuff.

I hope you mean Octopath and not DQ11. (been way more interested in DQ11 personally).

A break is definitely in order; no way am I jumping into another lengthy RPG now, so I figure I'll dive into the October Horror month with some real retro stuff. One thing about Koudelka and Shadow Hearts is they knew when to quit.
Koudelka took me less than 12 hours to finish, and doing everything in Shadow Hearts took me less than 28 hours.
In contrast; I've got almost 30 hours in Covenant, but I've still got at least another 15-20 hours left to finish it. This game is way longer than it needs to be. Maybe a (temporary) break would do me good. Maybe I should alternate it with other games until I finish it. Would you guys be disappointed in me if I started playing Fatal Frame tonight?

I don't remember putting in 50 hours on Covenant, but I could be wrong. I should probably check tonight. And yes, Xeogred, it's Octopath. I've barely touched anything else to make sure I actually finish it. I'm in the optional endgame.

Won't go into much detail, but despite its length, Octopath doesn't feel full of fluff, it's just got a lot of mainline content.

I don't remember putting in 50 hours on Covenant, but I could be wrong. Well here's Covenant's HLTB average: I tend to skew on the Main + Extra end of RPG times there. I could see myself hitting 50 easy. If you're interested in the RPG you're currently playing... . Behold the guiding design philosophy of almost every RPG developed in the last 15 years. It does seem like from the sixth gen onwards, console RPGs distinctly strive for 50-100 hour completion times.

Ah, yeah, just found my old clear save. 46h24m. You're right, almost everything sixth gen on (and even some fifth gen) was 50 hours or more.
I'm slightly under the HLTB times for the other game. We'll see how that shakes out.

It's a such a shame Ex will never get to experience the Man Festival for himself...
