I watched this, and while I'm impressed by the job they've done with the port... it also crosses into that "too high-res" category for me in a lot of ways. It's kind of like how I feel about up-res PSX games as well. I know others love that look, though, and it also emulates the look of a certain era of PC titles, so it's still pretty authentic. It's great that you can swap to the original render mode, though, and get them awesome, chunky pixels back.

I beat Dark Forces back in 1995, haven't played it since then. I remember enjoying it a lot, and being impressed with it on many aspects. I'd play this again on Switch. If it's available on that platform it's a buy.

It is indeed on there, although there are some slight performance hiccups.

Yes these are digital and not localized. Still unbelievable to see them officially released in the West.

Some more Toaplan classics coming to Steam/GOG soon. Love how we were just talking about arcade games again, the HRG EFFECT!

English or Japanese? I beat the SNES version but it's such a terrible, grindy port. I did a quick test with the PCE-CD version at the time and you would just run through enemies and level up literally several times faster. That's the version I wish was translated for 1 & 2. There's also the MSX versions, but the choppiness is just horrible.

The EGG CONSOLE games are not localized, this is literally an emulated version of the PC-88 original. However, the main configuration menus (options, save states, and so on) are in English. This game, along with Ys I and II, are playable with limited to zero knowledge of Japanese, especially if a walkthrough is consulted occasionally.
And yes, the PCE CD port destroys all other versions. Same goes for Ys, naturally.

I wasn't sure about that. Wasn't there a service called Project EGG years ago that also sold official emulated MSX games? I could have swore they had MSX Xak and a few other games in English on that service, or something affiliated with it.
I just wouldn't play a RPG if I can't read the text, not even an action RPG. I'm sure it would be pretty easy.
