Oh, yeah, being the console versions is the best scenario. Those have Metroidvania elements that are one of the big reasons it has achieved cult classic status.

Pretty cool. Guess it'll be done in 2026.

Guess this dropped TODAY during Quakecon.
I played Quake 1 for the first time in full recently back in 2016, via the Dark Places source port. I'm not seeing anything too crazy about this official remaster in comparison to source ports, but yeah... could be a fun excuse to replay this gem. Pretty sure I need to attempt the highest difficulty next time hehe.

When I'm through with Quake Expansion 2 on my 20 year old PC, I may buy this remaster solely for the new expansions.

Dimensions of the Past came out a few years ago and was free, it was excellent. It was cool to see that and the other two expansions are bundled in here.
Wonder if this has all the Bethesda crap (like 5 intro videos) and the login stuff they tried to pack into the latest Doom 2 update a year or so back... easy to get around that with source ports but I'm not sure about this case.

This rules. Perhaps my favorite FF boss theme getting a cool new arrangement from the man himself

Pretty cool, at least the music is. The remaster... still bothers me. I don't think the retouched pixel art looks bad at all, but it's combined with so many discordant elements. The menus look like they're in the wrong place, the font still doesn't match up, certain effects have far more resolution than the pixel art... I think it makes the effort look cheap. And I'm sure these have been done on a small budget, but "looking" cheap and "being" cheap are two different things.

Low detail FF4-FF5 I can kind of tolerate but things could really go wrong here with FF6...

This is a problem I have with many "retro" modern games as well. The aesthetics can be all over the place. If you've got blocky 16-bit sprites and background tiles, don't mix a modern high resolution font on top, and don't layer 3D special effects that also render at higher resolution on top as well. That kind of artistic direction clashes atonally for me.

Watching some FF4 pixel remaster stream right now, I can see what Sarge means about these looking a little "tacky" and weird.
Since this is a new look for FF3 though, I'd like to check that one out. I'm still curious about FF5 as well and grabbing FF1 on a sale for a few quick hours could be a good time. Those are the three I'll probably grab someday. But FF4's got cooler versions elsewhere and this redux of FF6 is probably going to look gross.
