Yeah. I'm going to cross my fingers it happens. Heck, I'd love for them to somehow work out a deal for the fan translations of the RPGs involved. Chances are, though, that they'd just change the lineup and have more games that were popular over here instead. And definitely 30-40 would take care of the bulk of the best releases, especially if limited to the games we got originally.

That's +4 to SEGA's hardware count.

My Sega Genesis Mini arrived. Thoughts:
- This is superior to the ATGames products. About 10 years ago I bought this $50 Sega Nomad thing from ATGames. It was awful. The sound emulation was off-kilter and the volume slider broke, so the audio was full blast no matter what I configured it to. Finally I resigned myself to plugging in a sawed-off headphone jack into the unit to make it silent. That was such a terrible experience. Anyway this thing is better than that.
- The library is alright. There are some head scratchers, some "aw hell yeah", and some "oh okay fair enough I may not want to play this in 2020 but this was an iconic Genesis title in its day" entries. It's impossible to please everyone in this area but I think they did alright. I've been playing Castlevania Bloodlines and Shinobi III most of all.
- Regarding input latency: I tried to sense this in Streets of Rage 2 and Castlevania Bloodlines but couldn't. I thought, "Is there latency? Isn't there? I can't tell..." So I switched to Dr. Robotnic's Mean Bean Machine, a game I've played for many many hours and for which I have clockwork precise reflexes. Then I could feel the input latency. I'll just say if it were any worse I wouldn't want to play it. They brought it right up to the threshhold of being too bad to put up with.
- I had a scare where I thought I bricked my Genesis Mini. I left it powered on overnight. The unit goes into "sleep mode" when you leave it idle for a while then wakes up when you press a button. In the morning I pressed a button and nothing happened. I powered it down and the red LED stayed on. So I pulled it from the mains. When I powered it back on, it played the first three notes of the opening jingle then went dead silent. It kept doing this until I swapped power supplies (I was using a crappy phone charger and changed to a more expensive one). I'm relieved, but also apprehensive, as I would have been pissed off if this thing broke from simply being left on overnight!

anayo The general consensus on the Genesis Mini is positive, from what I've seen. I sent my brother one last Christmas, and he ended up liking it quite a bit. I think he spent most of the time playing Ghouls 'n Ghosts. I've seen enough anecdotal evidence, to where I avoid using just any ol' USB charger to charge electronic devices. These are the USB device chargers I use nowadays: www.amazon.com/Certified-Charger-FONKEN-Universal-Compatible/dp/B07DF782WQ/

Yeah, I think they recommend a 2A charger for these. You can get away with 1.5A, I think, but better safe than sorry. A lot of times, it will even run off a USB port on a TV (or your computer, like my SNES Classic), but I don't recommend it. I noticed that it downclocks, and Yoshi's Island ran slower.
You're right about the input lag - it's just on the edge of acceptable. Only a few cases where it really hurts you. The TG-16 Mini has the same issues, which I'd expect since identical hardware and M2 again. Outside of that, though, the emulation quality is quite solid.

I got done watching this video by the YouTuber "Frame Rater" and it just occurred to me... If it's such a fad these days to re-release 90's game consoles, why not re-release the Sega Nomad, which was an awesome idea but actually had some underlying problems (poor screen, battery life, size, etc) that could be fixed with modern tech? idk

Tempted to get a Mega Drive mini for two things: to use the controllers with Retroarch and to bring it occasionally to a friend's place and play Streets of Rage, Contra and Tetris.

Chema: I've actually thought about it myself. I hate that they exhibit the input/sound lag issues mentioned, but most people won't notice, and I don't think there's anything on the system that absolutely requires perfect response times. They dropped to $40 at cheapest last year during BF sales, and I might actually give it a go if it dips to that again. That would also leave me short an NES Classic, and I don't plan on getting one unless it falls into my lap.

I got to stage 5 with my nephew today in Streets of Rage 2. It was pretty tough with him smacking me around at times or doubling up on the turkey's when I needed health. I'm guessing it defaulted to Normal at least, but yeah he just mashed through the menu's so it has friendly hits on. Maybe we could have finished it if it weren't for that.
Always have to endure some Street Fighter 2 with him as well... someday when he's older I'll tell him how much I don't really care about Street Fighter.
