So I'm using Turbo Engine right now, regular PCE games are fine. But I'm trying to play a CD game. I use MagicISO to mount things, I have a few BIOS files and Syscard3.pce seems to be the most "compatible", but all of them will just sit there with "Just a moment..." after I hit the run button. Yeah I'm assuming maybe the emulator needs to take a bit to "load" a CD game like actual hardware perhaps, but it just gets stuck on that screen indefinitely.
I'm hoping to hit up these titles, loosely connected to the Aleste series and they look freaking awesome:
Seirei Senshi Spriggan (PC Engine CD) Spriggan mark2: Re-Terraform Project (PC Engine CD) Sylphia (PC Engine CD)

Sometimes rips and MagicDisc don't get along. I haven't really figured out a rhyme or reason for it. It does the same thing with Saturn games.
My advice is either use RetroArch's core, or if you don't care for it, try Ootake.

I was reading stuff about the cue/bin files needing to be named correctly and such.
Right now I have: Seirei_Senshi_Spriggan_(NTSC-J)_[NXCD1004].cue Seirei_Senshi_Spriggan_(NTSC-J)_[NXCD1004].iso
Maybe someone else can test it?

That's probably okay, I'd think. If it's mounting correctly in MagicDisc, then it's just something about the emulator that doesn't like what MD is doing. I've not used Turbo Engine in quite a while; it hasn't been updated in about ten years. I'll see if I can get something running in it, though.
EDIT: Oh, Turbo Engine does direct disc loading. Okay, you should just be able to open the .CUE file in the emulator. I'd still recommend either Ootake or RetroArch, personally, though.

I don't know in Turbo Engine. Before that, I was using Magic Engine, before sometimes using Ootake, then switching to Mednafen/Beetle in RetroArch.

Yeah I remember not liking Magic Engine much. I was hoping for something pretty simple here, which Turbo Engine is... but yeah maybe it's not ideal. I just quickly glanced at the ratings here but it does seem really outdated and I wish users could actually post reviews.

I'm a Ootake guy. It's very straightforward and it works with basically everything.
I beat Sylphia last year. I gave it a 7 or 7.5, I think, with the main flaw being that it's so easy that it gets a little boring. I don't think those are actually connected to the Aleste series, though. To my knowledge, the only game related to Aleste that doesn't have Aleste in the title is Zanac. Compile made that game first and couldn't keep the title due to the deal they had with the publisher, so they switched to Aleste.
But those three are vertical shmups by Compile, so of course there's a certain house style. For the record Compile made over 20 of those, so you have a lot to pick from.
You might also like early Sting shooters like Override, as Sting was formed by former Compile employees and that game's pretty similar to what they used to do (or Psycho Chaser, which is much harder but more flavorful).

If you don't like jumping through ODE hoops, RetroArch is the way to go. I've used it on my PS Classic, and once you get the interface down, that's as good as it gets in terms of accuracy. I haven't tried this front end for Mednafen, but you might want to consider that, too: github.com/AmatCoder/mednaffe

I haven't had time to test it yet, but supposedly this site is great for browser based emulation: www.playemulator.com/
