When we start the thread in question, I will post a list of console RPGs that existed around that time. Not to say I would only play RPGs, but for those seeking more depth than a single screen platformer...

I did some research and found Koei's The Dragon and Princess (1982) for PC-8001. Also, Tunnels of Doom from that same year. Apparently the second generation came to a halt with the gaming crash of 1983, so they should be good... If I can find them.
Failing that, any first person game like Maze War? I still don't know what I'm going to do next year exactly - might either go entirely with SRPGs or do a fifty-fifty split. There are just so many games I'd still like to play.

Just as a reminder, the Famicom didn't come out until July 15, 1983, so anything that slides up to that line should be fair game.
I actually do plan on playing a few older single-screen games as well, so no worries on that front. We'll see if I can't pull a few score attack wins out of the hat.

Yeah, I'm thinking of going for straightforward, score-based action games myself. I'd like to have a little friendly competition of this:
That guy doesn't know what he's doing, but the point is to kill enemy samurai by holding the sword down and walking towards them at an angle where their sword won't touch you, while avoiding or blocking ropes and shuriken from off-screen enemies (you block overhead by default when not holding the attack button).

Ya know what, I'll let Ex be the thread-starter for January, as he's been doing; this month* I'll make a thread about 1st/2nd gen hardware. I own an Odyssey, Odyssey 2, Channel F, 2600, 5200, Intellivision, ColecoVision, and Vectrex. I'm way into this stuff.
* okay by this I actually mean December

I absolutely need to hit up some Intellivision. I think that's the only system that I used to own that I haven't bought back.

I could certainly do that. It would force me to dig up some interesting stuff outside of the US library, which I've explored a lot.

Hmmm, I don't know. Seems we play plenty of Famicom and NES games already regardless. I'm not saying we can't do that, especially if we don't find anything else, but I'd like to see if we can come up with another idea in the next week or so. First-person February? Future February, where we play sci-fi games? Frustrating February, where we only play games that piss us off (no)? FIFA February? (ok, the least two are jokes).
I'm still down for Master System March, of course. For the Game Gear, maybe we can just do a handheld month? We all know we're not gonna be able to keep up the alliterative themes forever.
