Bahaha, Frustrating February would be hilarious. When some of us aren't throwing controllers across the room or coming up with colorful expletives during our play sessions.
Actually, instead of just Famicom, we could restrict (and expand) the selection and make it Fan-Translation February. That way if we wanted to avoid Famicom/NES, we could go down other avenues, but wouldn't have the entire Japanese library of games for each system at our disposal.

First-person February? Future February, where we play sci-fi games? Frustrating February, where we only play games that piss us off (no)? FIFA February? (ok, the least two are jokes). I like all of those ideas just fine (sans FIFA). I just don't want to do themes that are super-broad, because that loses the identity of the thing. "First Person" itself would capture a huge swath of games, I think that'd need more narrowing down with additional qualifiers. Well I think we should do individual handheld months. I mean the libraries of the Game Gear, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color, DS, NeoGeo Pocket and so on are all large enough to support their own individual months. Fan-Translation February. I like that idea too, although it may also be a little too broad? I'm pretty much good with whatever*, as long as we're all challenging ourselves to step outside our comfort zones, and experience something new (to the player). I hope to see more of our members join in on these Club Retro sessions. I understand that it's often not doable without emulation - and emulation isn't gonna hurt anyone by the way - but many games can be found on legit compilations. Where there is a will... *March is Master System though, for personal reasons!

True. Maybe we could narrow such a month down by saying it had to be for a system that didn't come in "first" in its home territory. That would force exploration of SMS, PC Engine, Genesis, and whatnot. Basically, no Nintendo until the PlayStation rolls around.

I like the idea of Fan-Translation Feb. I keep thinking I want to get back into RPGs and play one of those recent releases, but I never do. This might be the push I need.

Basically, no Nintendo until the PlayStation rolls around. If we're going to do full system months, then this makes sense enough. Personally I'd only be interested in full system months for platforms which were relatively underdogs and don't have massive libraries. For platforms with massive libraries, it's best to have additional qualifiers to help narrow down the decision making. I like the idea of Fan-Translation Feb. I keep thinking I want to get back into RPGs and play one of those recent releases, but I never do. This might be the push I need. Since you and Sarge have both expressed interest in that theme (and no one else is either paying attention or cares to vote) then yeah dudes, I'm down with that. So as it stands thus far: 2019 Club Retro ScheduleJan - 1st & 2nd Generation Gaming Feb - Fan Translations Mar - Master System Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec
We've still got lots of months to fill, so feel free to suggest ideas everybody. I'll throw a few out there for possible inclusion...
Game Gear NES/Famicom Adventure Games NeoGeo Pocket / Color Cyberpunk Console WRPGs Handheld Fighters Sci-fi SRPGs/JRPGs Mech-centric Games Overhead Dungeon Crawlers Japanese-designed Puzzle Games

It might be fun to have a poll and vote for each month's theme. Maybe this is unlikely, but I'm hoping that might encourage people to go ahead and register so they can help steer the way each month goes. Again, a long shot, but I guess it would feel kind of welcoming, maybe? I'm going to go ahead and put in a nod for Superhero September. I think it'd be interesting to see all the different ways people meet that challenge. Also, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO FOWL FEBRUARY! And here I was about to spend out on a NES, a Light Gun, and a copy of Duck Hunt

It might be fun to have a poll and vote for each month's theme. If we had more active users, that'd be worth doing. I don't personally think adding a poll would attract more active users. I don't see HRG could feel unwelcoming? I think this forum lacks trolls, jerks, or drama of any sort thus far. HRG is only openly hostile to modern games!

Oh yeah, I don't mean to imply that we're unwelcoming in any way now, just that I'm trying to think of ways could reach out to folks who are lurking besides posting about how they're lurking. Hello Lurkers, we love you. Join us and post so we can tell you how much we love you
