That's all alien to me anayo, haha... sorry man. You guys cool with some retro remixes? Mega Man X Spark Mandrill ... with the power of MD/Genesis FM! Holy FUUUUUU www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFLZf6-k-NkI really dig this 8bit remix too, pretty much everything on this channel is amazing: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xq5C_T6YQSMIf there's one MMX track that I think gets overlooked or that I just personally think is a top favorite, it's Sigma Stage 1. It definitely sounds like some final dungeon material and fittingly so... ominous yet triumphant and exhilarating. You've come this far and are so close, yet the real battle has just begun. So epic. www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeqP8QE9jHQ

Alternatively, you can also plug your computer to your TV and avoid that kind of trouble.

This is probably the biggest wild goose chase I've ever embarked on to get an obscure old 16-bit video game working. While I think your explanation as to why you don't want emulators on your computer is strange, I applaud your effort to get PC98 emulation working on your Xbox. It's always super gratifying when you go through so many hoops, and the payoff actually happens. Now to see if you enjoy the game...

I don't think my "anti emulators on my computer" thing makes any sense outside the neurotic workings of my own brain. Yeah, it would be pretty ironic if I went to all that trouble only to hate Rusty. I'd get a laugh out of that. XD

I run my PC on my TV anyway. It's more comfortable that way, and I get a nice 48" screen for everything.

I don't think my "anti emulators on my computer" thing makes any sense outside the neurotic workings of my own brain. Just out of mere curiosity, if you ran a virtual machine on your computer, and loaded the emulators into the virtual machine rather than your actual computer, would that still bother you? Let me be clear; I'm not deriding your opinion about emulation or insinuating you're "wrong" about PC emulation. Just wondering about the above scenario.

Let me be clear; I'm not deriding your opinion about emulation or insinuating you're "wrong" about PC emulation. Just wondering about the above scenario. No, I don't think so. I think the only circumstances where I'd emulate on my computer would be if I just couldn't get it working otherwise. Gamecube emulation with modern improvements (such as higher display resolution or VR) or MAME beyond the capabilities of my classic XBOX (like Sega Model 2 or Naomi era arcades) are the only categories that come to mind. I was thinking about this the other day, trying to get to the bottom of why I feel this way. While I think perceived "clutter" is a factor, it's also got a lot to do with feeling as though certain games belong on consoles, whereas others belong on a personal computer with a keyboard, mouse, and monitor closer to my face. For instance, I don't like playing Doom or Quake on a game console. The whole experience is just off for me. I can't really articulate why. To me it would feel just as "off" to play Super Mario 3 on a laptop. I think it's got something to do with SMB3 "belonging" in the living room, but also the preliminary steps to turn it on would feel unnatural (move the mouse to launch an emulator, connect a controller over bluetooth vs. just hitting the power button on an NES). I'm even kind of particular about playing my 8 and 16 bit games over RCA on a CRT screen. They don't look or feel right to me on modern TV's.

The whole experience is just off for me. I can't really articulate why. After you've explained this more, I think I get where you are coming from. Though I bet if I were to hook a laptop up to a CRT TV (at a relevant resolution), run SMB3 to it via PC, and hand you a NES USB controller, you'd be OK. But I'm not knocking your tastes, whatever keeps ya gamin' man! - To get this thread back on track, howabout Marevelous' OST today?

As a kid I guess I'm not even sure I was cognizant that the SNES sounded better than the NES, but now I can hear how it literally allows types of instrumentation and songs that just were beyond the NES's wildest dreams. As I recall, the NES could only handle square waves and a noise channel. Those melodies from Marvelous really pretty heavily on that unique instrumentation, which I admire.
