Did you play through Dragon View, Xeogred? That's one of the best hidden gems on the SNES. But yeah, you may want to explore outside the SNES, too. Landstalker, Light Crusader, Crusader of Centy, King Colossus, and Beyond Oasis on Genesis. The system didn't get many RPGs of any type, but those all range from good to amazing. Saturn has some good ones, too, and I need to roll around to them. I didn't like Legend of Oasis as much, but it's still very solid. Magic Knight Rayearth looks good, too. Dark Savior is pretty janky, but also interesting for bucking some norms.

Oh man, yeah I always forget about Dragon View. That's pretty obscure and it looks awesome.

Xeogred you'd probably like this one: If you've not played it yet.

I've beaten it. One of the best SNES OST's out there. And that cover art is so dang good. I miss art like that.

I like this track, but it sounds intensely familiar. I'm certain I've heard something very similar to the core melody here before. Where, I have no idea. I feel like one of you would know, though.
Most of the music in this game is rather good, anyway. Here's another:

Sounds a lot like stuff you'd hear in Silent Hill to me.

Turns out the answer was in the video's comments, which I had overlooked somehow (usually I check there first when I have that kind of question!)
It's basically an early '90s remix of Gymnopedie No.1 by composer Erik Satie, from 1888.
Still not sure where I first heard it, though.
EDIT: And I have my answer, straight from Wikipedia: "The 2006 game Mother 3 also features Gymnopédie No. 1 in its soundtrack as Leder's Gymnopedie.[12]"
Funny thing is it reminded me of Earthbound all along. This piece is so bittersweet/melancholy.
EDIT 2: It's also in Persona 2: Innocent Sin, which I played for a while but never finished. It's the Velvet Room theme (a place you find yourself in many times throughout the game).
No wonder it felt so familiar. I literally heard it from multiple sources without making the connection. That's 3 Japanese games that use the piece now. I guess it's well-liked over there.
EDIT 3 - IT DONT STOP - Apparently it's in Flower, Sun and Rain & Killer 7 as well.

toeiI have heard Gymnopedie No.1 many times in many different media. I agree it's bittersweet/melancholy, very much that emotion perfected into a musical piece.
