December's theme is games developed by Data East. This company made a lot of games from when it started in 1976 until it ended in 2003. Data East developed games on a ton of different platforms in many different genres. I am sure that anyone who cares to join in on this month would be able to find at least one game to play. If you would like recommendations for particular platforms or genres, let us know.
As for me, I plan to hit up these: No I have not beaten any of these games before. I always try to play new-to-me stuff for events like this. - Here's hoping many of our 27 members choose to participate this month!

I have only have one I'm dead-set on: Atomic Runner (Genesis), known as Chelnov in the arcades. It's an auto-runner platformer where you fire projectiles and can also bounces on enemy heads. You can hold back to stop running forward temporarily (though the screen still scrolls forward), but you cannot walk backward at all. The first time I played it, I thought it seemed pretty cool, but impossible. More recently, I tried it again to see if it'd be worth playing through one day, figured a few things out, and finished the first level, and decided I definitely wanted to play. The Genesis version is pretty different from the arcade version; the levels were changed into relics of ancient civilizations rather than generic gray bases, and the enemy designs were changed as well. It seems to be considered the superior version, and is something of a cult classic.
If I can get into a RPG mood and find the time for it, I'd like to play Glory of Heracles 4. 3 is one of the many underrated SNES RPGs no one seems to talk about, mostly because it was fan-translated and wasn't made by Squaresoft. Initially, it seems like a pretty standard Dragon Quest clone, and the main character's even an amnesiac, but there's more to it; no matter what he does, he cannot seem to die. On his journey, he encounters a few others in the same predicament, and eventually the story elevates far beyond the average SNES RPG - it's one of the best on the system, in fact. After Glory of Heracles 4, the main writer behind the series was recruited by Square, and it basically died, barring a DS remake/reboot that couldn't handle a candle to 3.
Beyond that, there may be a few other arcade-style titles I'll check out. I didn't even realize Data East had made Dark Lord. I assumed it was the same company as Dark Law, but it seems like a few former DECO people had joined Sakata SAS or were working as freelancers by then.
Dark Lord was mostly made by the Glory of Heracles team, but it's very different. It's a darker, scenario-based, pen-n-paper RPG-inspired game with a SRPG battle system. It's one of the better NES RPGs, and isn't like any other. I do recommend it.

Somebody should give Werewolf: The Last Warrior a go. Just... use save states for your sanity, please.

Dark Lord is legit as hell. One of the best Famicom-only RPGs.

Ex , did you already play Rohga: Armor Force? Seems like it might be a little up your alley. Also, I didn't realize that Data East published the SNES Shadowrun. But no, the real classic we should all play is... Tattoo Assassins. Yup.

Ex , did you already play Rohga: Armor Force? Indeed I have beaten Rohga: Armor Force, via MAME many moons ago. That's a wise recommendation though. Xeogred might like it. - To throw out a few more recommendations to our regulars... bonesnapdeez seems to have a Wii U slant lately, so he might like: Seeing as how the Wii U is backwards compatible and all. It includes...
BurgerTime Bad Dudes vs. Dragon Ninja "Burnin' Rubber" (US title: Bump' n' Jump) "Caveman Ninja" (US title: Joe & Mac) "Crude Buster" (US title: Two Crude Dudes) Express Raider Heavy Barrel Lock n' Chase Magical Drop III Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory "Secret Agent" (US title: Sly Spy) Side Pocket Street Hoop Super Real Darwin Wizard Fire
- Our man @tsumuri with his first person fetish might enjoy... - - anayo has been incognito lately, but I'd recommend Vapor Trail and High Seas Havoc to him.

I played the Fighter's History games a few years back. The first is famously close to SF2, with one twist - characters usually have a visible weak point, and you can stun them by hitting hit repeatedly. Still, while it may be one of the least original, it's also one of the better games from that first wave of post-SF2 fighters, as it plays pretty well. The second game, Karnov's Revenge / Mizoguchi's whatever is pretty legit. Never played Bloody Wolf, I'll give it a go.

I'm definitely tempted to play through Fighter's History. I only remember it being, as toei says, famously (or infamously) close to SFII, to the point that Capcom sued them in court over copyright infringement. Capcom lost that one, but it's not like FH was going to set the world on fire.

I have played through most of that compilation. It owns.
Now that I think of it, there are some old Data East games that were ported to second gen consoles.
Also, this would be a good month for the JOHNNY TURBO games.

Data East... looking like Data Daunting! I was kind of expecting that but seeing that full list of titles still shocked me, haha.
Rohga: Armor Force looks very nice on the eyes for sure, so I might check that one out.
Let's say I'm still in the mood for the action/platformer Natsume-styled flavor, does that help narrow down some ideas or recommendations I might like? I've actually been pretty interested in High Seas Havoc myself as well.
