So based on what I know your tastes are, this is exactly what you're looking for... Uh-huh. Jokes aside, cool recommendations. I have already played some of those. The sequel to Darkness Within actually has FPS-like movement, but it's from 2010. Also, I'd say Pathologic and The Void are both 1st person adventure game, albeit with some combat in them. Salammbo is a particularly interesting and lesser known adventure game based on a historical novel about the Mercenary Revolt after the First Punic War, as the Carthagianians lost the war against the Romans, were unable to pay their mercenaries and all hell broke loose. What's particularly cool about it, it's that for the art style they took inspiration from a series of French sci-fi comics based on the book. As a result, everything in the game looks beautifully weird and alien. Oh, and Salammbo herself looks nice too.

So, I've finally got a good emulator (Magic Engine) for the PC-Engine. I wouldn't mind playing more games for this system, however, I know very little about it. Are there any SRPGs at all for this console?

finally got a good emulator (Magic Engine) Yes, good choice. Some people will tell you other TG/PCE emulators are better. Those people are wrong. - As for SRPGs on this system... well dude, this may not be the best platform to start next year's voyage on, honestly. bonesnapdeez might know of a few though. I can at least mention these... Emerald Dragon is a bit of JRPG/SRPG hybrid. The battles are more SPRG-like. It's also in Japanese. I'm not sure if an English translation exists for this version, but I'm sure you could find an English guide of some sort.
More of a straight up strategy game, but Military Madness is the most challenging genre piece you can find on the platform.

Ootake is straight-up better than Magic Engine, and you don't have to get a cracked version because it's freeware. It's been my exclusive PCE/PCECD emu for years. Speaking to Ex.
Tsumuri - There isn't any SRPG available in English on the TG-16 or TG-CD, period. There are a few in Japanese.

Ootake is straight-up better than Magic Engine You cannot prove that in a court of law on the grounds of Ootake lacking a bunny girl logo.

Yeah there are some great SRPGs on the PCE... In Japanese. There actually may be more on the PC-FX, or at least more good ones. Emerald Dragon is a great game, and may appear to be a SRPG at first glance... It's actually a "traditional" JRPG -- kinda; you "position" your lead character and he attacks automatically. All allies are AI.

I prefer Mednafen myself. But there are times I have to lean on Magic Engine. I think it's because some of the rips floating around were made to work better with it than the real system or Ootake/Mednafen. I especially like to use the Wii port, which makes things quite easy to use and navigate compared to the PC version.
(You can also lean on the Beetle core in RetroArch, which is the renamed Mednafen TG-16 core.)

Mednafen is definitely solid, but the interface sucks, even with the GUIs I've tried, so I only use it for Saturn.

That being said, I've started to get the hang of the new-ish RetroArch GUI, so if you haven't given that a shot, maybe try it out. My computer doesn't do Saturn and Mednafen very well. I know it's the more accurate emulator, but that takes more horsepower that I won't have until I finally bite on a new PC. Soon! (And I have a modded Saturn, so I typically just play that way unless I'm testing.)

I've been hearing that Yabause became amazing overnight, and has much lower requirements. Haven't had a reason to test it yet.
