You guys hiring? (I like my job but working from home would be nice to me).

Wish I could. Most of my job could be done from home if our network policies allowed it. It's okay, though, since I'm only ten minutes from work.

I might even have you beat there, 3.5 miles from my work. Like a 5 minute drive haha.
Nice commute but I'm planning on probably getting out of this apartment after another year... getting a little fed up with all the issues piling up and a newer loud neighbor above me, who seems to be up BEFORE and AFTER my waking hours which is just fantastic. Hopefully with another raise coming up and some savings this year I should be in a more flexible position but a real house is still probably far off.

Yeah, my optimal route is like 7 miles going, 5 1/2 coming back. And it's not a straight line. But the nice part is that I'm outside the city limits, and the neighbors, while closer than I'd like, aren't too bad. About the worst is our renter/family friend has a loud-ish truck when he drives in after midnight usually. Not that it matters, I'm usually still up... toei, hope your job stuff works out. I can understand getting frustrated with it at times. A change of pace might do you some good!

The company I work for has about 370 employees, and I'm the only work from home one. I doubt your chances would be good. That said, every two weeks I make the drive down to the engineering offices. That's about 175 miles one way. Then I drive back up in the evening. I get paid for mileage, but still that's 700 miles of driving a month at minimum. So chances are despite working from home, I'm driving to work a lot further than most of you. I just do all the driving in two days!

Honestly, if I was ten minutes from work, I wouldn't mind working at the office on most days. There's a few people there I get along really well with, and because I work late, I don't usually see my bosses much. And when you spend all your time at home there are times where you start to feel like you're trapped or just wasting your time (even if you're working, psychologically, I think there's this idea of "get out and do something" where it just feels more productive to go to work outside of your home), and you just get the urge to get out for a while. Normally I would just take little walks after meals, and even that would help, but it's disgustingly cold outside.
But it took too damn long for me to get there; an hour 15 minutes going, an hour and a half coming back at night. Of course, there are other advantages too. You don't have to pretend like you're working when there's no work to do (though my job doesn't let me get away from that work computer, so it's not like I can game or whatever). And just already being home when you finish after a long day feels great. Plus I've never been good with making lunches, so that's also a lot easier to deal with, and I save at least 200$ a month by eliminating the commute and ordering food less often. It adds up.
