Against my better judgment, I have once again inflicted pain on my wallet. Limited Run has Shantae up, and I decided to spring for the Collector's Edition release of the GBC cart. In a lot of ways, I see this and the recent Xeno Crisis purchase as a sort of investment - I've skipped stuff like this in the past and then been burned when it shoots up in value.

SargeThat's an acquisition I will endorse. If nothing else, Shantae is a technical marvel for its platform.

I played through it via the 3DS Virtual Console, and it's a ton of fun once you get rolling. Definitely one of the prettier games for the system as well - WayForward has been impressive on the pixel art front for some time now. It's a meatier game than you'd think, too - I'm pretty sure it took me 11-12 hours to 100%.

*Looks at Xeogred's avatar.* Yeah, you would. I never even heard of this, which surprises me since I thought I had a handle on SFC import friendly action platformers. Sarge That's an acquisition I will endorse. If nothing else, Shantae is a technical marvel for its platform. Is it? I haven't touched the game in a decade, but I remember looking into it and thinking that it was overrated. What's its selling point?

Keep in mind, I said it was a "technical marvel for its platform", not a good game. Shantae supports parallax scrolling, transparency effects, advanced sprite animation, and dynamic palette indexing. Pretty high tech for a GBC release.

I'm actually assuming it's in toei 's wheelhouse and he'll post his review soon, seems like he's played a hundred games like this. I noticed the US version ( X-Kalibur 2097) has a completely different OST. Think the Japanese original sounds cooler to me though.

Yeah, I remember X-Kalibur 2097 being covered in Nintendo Power, and I thought it looked cool back in the day. That being said, I've always bounced off of it every time I've given it a go.

That's a title I've been ignoring whenever I see it, but I guess unfairly so. I might have to give it a whirl. I do think I like the JP OST better, but I'll have to give both a proper listen to really decide that.

Xeogred Same as Sarge , I have tried the US version before and didn't like it (I don't remember why), but I'll admit that it *looks* exactly like the type of game I like. I'll probably give the Japanese version a shot, what with the new OST and all. This is not a genre the SNES excels at. The only fully legit example of it on the console that I've come across so far is Hagane, though I need to play Run Saber.
