So I don't think we have one of these, but often times gaming boards will have them. When in doubt, steal! Anyway, I'm thinking this might kick off some interesting discussions (that have occurred in other threads as well) about controversial gaming opinions we might have. For instance, there might be a much-lauded classic that you think is extremely overrated, or you might have a game that you think is really fun, and that everyone else thinks is awful. Or at least the Internet at large has deemed it so. I'll kick us off with a few of mine: - Fester's Quest, while flawed, is actually a good game. - Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled is also very poorly balanced, but is much better than the reviews make it out to be if you can stick with it. - Shaq Fu isn't the worst game ever. It isn't even the worst fighting game ever. It isn't even the worst fighting game on SNES or Genesis! - Castlevania: Rondo of Blood is a bit overrated. It's still a great game, mind you, probably an 8.5 in my mind, but it isn't the pinnacle of the Classicvania formula. - Zelda II rocks. End of discussion. So does Super Mario Bros. 2. I'm sure I can come up with more, but feel free to go nuts.

Uh oh, it has begun. That's one of my faves...
...but I think you might be right. It might be my favorite of the 16-bit entries, but it's still not a 10/10. I had it wrong earlier, I rated Rondo an 8 and SCV4 an 8.5.

Sarge That Shaq-Fu isn't the worst game ever, or worst fighter ever, is obvious to anyone who has a decent amount of experience with the medium. It's not good, but the over-exaggerated hate is basically a meme. It's not even the worst SNES fighter, actually - the two Super Famicom Hokuto no Ken fighters are incredibly bad, and there are probably others that are worse. Most Western fighters were pretty mediocre at the time. I think I've already shared most of my controversial videogame opinions. Pre-Symphony of the Night Castlevania is pretty bad, Mega Man is so-so, and Super Metroid is overrated. Nintendo as a game maker is overrated, though I wouldn't call them bad.

Yeah, I also think Rise of the Robots is a lot worse as well.
I do know folks that don't care for the Mega Man games, although not many find them outright bad. How did you feel about the X series? I can't remember if you hit on that or not!

I have beaten FFT twice and still don't love it. I think I'd MAYBE take it over FF2J, but other than that I just roll my eyes when people compare FFT to the main line and claim it's the best.
Castlevania III is my least favorite of the CV main line.
I love Sonic 3D Blast.
I love Secret of Mana just as much as Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6. The ultimate JRPG trilogy, however I continue to love FF4 more and more over the years and have played through many of its versions. Might like it more than FF6.
I also love FF5. Nuff said.
I don't like Wind Waker, it's a good game compared to non-Zelda's, but it's not a good Zelda. Even the HD version with its quality of life changes, it just made me confirm I'll probably never touch it again.
Fallout was a chore to get through, hated the gameplay. Great story/atmosphere though. Apparently Fallout 2 is like twice as long so I barely played that one.

I can't remember if you hit on that or not! I tried a ton of Mega Man games, including X, X2 and X3, and liked none of them enough to want to keep playing. I don't like how the character handles, I feel like them have no momentum cause everything takes too many shots to kill (most of those critters should die in one hit), I don't like the character designs and visual style. Some of the music is really good. "Bad" was probably exaggerated for how I feel about them (I edited my post), but I don't think they're good.

I enjoyed both of these as a kid. I wonder if stuff being cool during childhood makes it deserve any more slack...

I did like Sonic 3D Blast at the time, and I remember thinking that 3D intro was incredible at the time. I didn't think a 16-bit system should be able to do that. I still don't think it's a bad game at all.

3D Blast is a frequent punching bag among the internet, but yeah. Never got the hate. The OST is a 10/10 too.
