(Honestly, I would love to see a remake of Link's Awakening, where the only thing they really changed was improving the inventory system, especially regarding the dash boots/power bracelet.) No thanks! I can just picture it being in the same vein as Link Between Worlds... I do not want that at all. I've really lost faith on Nintendo and the top down formula for Zelda right now, going to need a miracle to win me back (similar to how bored I am with the New Super Mario Bros line, those are as dull and "safe" as it gets. Utterly uninspired).
Which brings me to something I don't always see other people realize for whatever reason, but I NEVER, EVERRRRRRRRRRRR want to see another Chrono game ever again. You can never (especially modern day Square ENIX) recapture that magic again. Let something retain some glory instead of dragging a corpse around.
Ex : Those three combined aren't even a 4th as good as Demon's. And I like the first two! Journey looks like a snoozefest.
Oh but yeah Ex, welcome to the club of seeing Demon's get ignored by most modern From fans. Get used to it.
Huge fan and I actually kind of choked up during the ending, it was surreal how cinematic it was for an SNES title. Godly OST, great combat and graphics, very cool story, insane ambition. Not without flaws though, but I don't recall any sort of painful item hunt, it was mainly just some town building fetch quests that I would trim down if I could edit it a bit. The first half is incredible though. I put it above Soul Blazer for its superior peaks and ambition, but if I want some quick simple fun, Soul Blazer's a good choice.
I dig them. Fun little throwback to the points from the arcade days, except now a little global player point number. But yeah people can take them too seriously. As I have explained somewhere on the board before though, in the case of remasters/collections and ports, I love when they throw fun and goofy ones at you that let you discover things in the game you normally would never see. Like taking a seat in SoTN and hearing the Fairy sing a song after awhile.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Don't shortchange Shadow of the Colossus like that. You can do that with the others, but not that one.

I agree that a Chrono sequel would be a bad idea. In general I'm not for reviving series at all. Whatever spirit the original game had belonged to a particular group of people at a particular time, and it can't be brought back. And Chrono Trigger was the result of an all-star lineup in their prime; there was never going to be a worthy sequel.

I used to pine for another Chrono sequel or a remake myself, but far too much time has passed. That ship has sailed. I feel the same way about a traditional sequel to Phantasy Star IV; there's just no way they rekindle that magic. Xeogred: There's a reason I said a remake that only messed with the way items are handled. I'd prefer they not touch the style, either, unless they converted it to a Link to the Past or Minish Cap look, and not ALBW's look. Far too plasticine and "cheap" looking.

Let's go with a little bit of a hot take. Jackal for NES is the best overhead run-and-gun of all time. (Seriously, if it isn't the top, it's close to it for me.)

Very much so, in my opinion. The original arcade game suffers from the same problems as Contra and Super C: unresponsive aiming through the diagonals.
I should also note that the NES game has a lot more varied visuals, although you can see some of the stage layouts from the arcade still. The NES version feels a lot more varied overall, though. I think the NES soundtrack sounds better than whatever FM synth they had going as well. And they have bosses for each of the six stages in the NES version: a bunch of tough tanks for the first, homing missile-spitting statues for the second, a large battleship for the third, a large chopper for the fourth, a sort of tank depot for the fifth, and then the fortress and massive battle tank at the end. Good stuff.

I've shamefully never played through Jackal in any of its iterations. Obviously I need to fix that. Sarge did you ever play through MERCS on Genesis? Reminds me of Jackal.

Oh, yeah, definitely. That's another favorite of mine. I don't think I have a cart of it, though.
