It'd be like walking around touting the Mega Man X games are the best things ever made and never touching the NES games. When the best thing to do is obviously never touching any of them.

So you're saying I should just play Demon's Souls and never think of Mega Man again, right?

I don't like the taste of that... but that is a compromise I could make! Though, I have yet to truly believe you play anything after the 16bit era lately.

Right now, I don't, but I do want to get that PS3 at one point. I actually got one for Christmas two years ago, but the bag containing all the cables, controllers and games got lost before I could ever use it. So I only really need to get that stuff.

There's probably plenty of stuff I could recommend you, but that'll be another topic for another day. Demon's Souls is the #1 priority for sure. Since we don't agree a lot on RPG's though, I'm going to laugh if you hate it.

I imagine I'll probably like it cause I loved Vagrant Story, and I like most action RPGs. That's the one genre I'm not difficult about. It might bother me if there's basically no story, but we'll see.

It might bother me if there's basically no story, but we'll see. There is a lot of story, but it's not spoon fed to the player via gratuitous CG cutscenes. The plot's found and read, via lore scripts, and discussions with NPCs. A fair amount of the story is implied via "show don't tell" tactics as well.

Well, that's good, then. I bet I will like it.

Item descriptions are key, even just about every single weapon and there's a story to it around its previous owner or history, etc. Miyazaki knows how to keep the balance just right, there's certainly an obvious story that's easy to follow but plenty of space for you to fill in with your imagination as well. To your benefit toei, it's not as ambiguous as Super Metroid or anything to that level. But yeah, like the only cutscenes you're ever going to get are the fun little boss reveals and stuff like that. All the story and NPC dialogue is very subtle and I love that. Vagrant Story is always the only real big comparison I can think of myself. In ways Demon's Souls might even be more of a pure dungeon crawler. It really is like 99% pure gameplay and the game never strips control from the player. Which personally is actually what makes these games so comforting and fun for me, it's very freeing to play modern stuff that doesn't strip control away from you and just lets you GO! My kind of stuff.

Vagrant Story is always the only real big comparison I can think of myself. I can understand where you are coming from with the aesthetic perspective at least. The combat is totally different. That said, they both have an intangibly similar "mood". I guess it's telling that while Demon's Souls is my favorite PS3 game, Vagrant Story is my favorite PS1 game. Stuff this good, and this unique, only comes once per generation.
