mainly because that "barrier" power (first aid cross) makes you invincible for a big chunk of time I probably wasn't aware of that and didn't use it in my run. Hard to remember as it was four years ago. I'm also definitely not the Lord of Platformers.

Oh, the game would kill you dead really fast if you didn't use it. It's actually pretty ridiculous. I'm surprised you made it through without it!

While watching some Deep Space Nine tonight, I got to level 5 in Streets of Rage 2 (SMS). Awesome graphics and feels pretty good for the system, just about all of your options for attacks from the Genesis games are here too. However, it's very hard to perform the special attack with only two buttons to work with. I didn't realize you could do the double ->-> + attack moves either until near the end. Blaze's sprite is amazingly cool, too bad she does so little damage with her combos here though that it was kind of pointless to play her. I imagine Skate might be even weaker, so I just stuck with Axel. The repeat mini-bosses were a bit too brutal here, with the weird hit detection for this genre on 8bit platforms. The jetpack guy and knife guy in particular were annoying, same with the bouncer who started showing up. Like the Genesis game, you start seeing repeats of them the more your progress, so that gets tough. The safe trick of repeatedly jump attacking enemies works here sometimes, but they can stun lock you in the corner and such too, especially the whip girls! Music was a mixed bag like usual on the SMS. An absolute total lack of FM bass makes this sound pretty weird, for Streets of Rage. Some tracks got repeated a lot. There's also barely any sound effects, there's like three of them... and one of them used for gaining a life, picking up a life, picking up weapons, etc, was amusingly re-used for far too much. Not bad! But not something I think I'll see through to the end. Cool little curiosity though. I got to the 50 minute mark... well dang, that was the last level!

I still want to beat Sonic Chaos! And I'm still NOT liking this 8BitDo M30. Can't wait for the Retrobit replacement controller.

I still want to beat Sonic Chaos! Indeed, I'm itching for a second opinion, considering Sarge was nonplussed over it.

I'm curious as to what bigger Sonic fans think of it, myself. Do it, Xeogred!

But not something I think I'll see through to the end. Cool little curiosity though. I got to the 50 minute mark... well dang, that was the last level! Pride kicked in, so I had to go back to this unfinished business! Well, here I thought stage 5 was the last level, but there was still a stage 6. That was mainly just the elevator gauntlet, then Shiva and the final boss. I made it to stage 3 before losing a life, so that was an awesome head start. Learned some crucial tricks on a few bosses and their repeat encounters. The pipe seems utterly useless but the knives are decent. For the most part I just stuck to my fists though.
Took about 50 minutes on a good run.
Since the music was subpar for this version, I had this blasting in the background instead:
