So it turns out that Keita Amemiya's first significant work in video games (he had technically directed a promotional video for Namco's Genpei Toumaden already) is the cover to the Famicom Disk System Zelda clone Seiken Psycho Calibur: You can definitely recognize his style. FYI, Ex , he did the monster designs in Nostalgia. Other notable work in games include character designs for Hagane, Treasure of the Rudras, Clock Tower 3, Onimusha 2 and Genji, for which he was also supervised the art design in general, and some demon designs for Shin Megami Tensei IV.

Never even heard of that game! Looks okay glancing over some videos, but nothing amazing. I've known of his involvement in those other games. Sadly I don't think the Onimusha 2 designs stand out a lot or anything. The series has some cool monster designs and art direction in general, but yeah his involvement in 2 doesn't really propel it over the others or anything. I've watched the first three seasons of GARO. Makai Senki (S2) was really good and felt like a Devil May Cry series practically. These all have some ugly dated CGI for a lot of the action though. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garo_(TV_series)

Xeogred Yeah, I've watched two of his movies, Mirai Ninja (with subs, not the horrible '80s dub) and Moon Over Tao Makaraga, and while they both have really cheap special effects and so-so acting typical of tokusatsu, I found them surprisingly watchable. There's just a lot of ideas in the story, some of which are actually really good, their world is interesting (both of them combining historical feudal Japan with futuristic or alien elements, which seems to be his main thing), the cast is pretty cool and varied, and the pacing is quick. Some of the fighting is decent as well. And yeah, Ex , he sure loves his horns. The demon on that cover reminds me of the witch's hat from Power Rangers.

The live action Iria movies are pretty fun too, though it's been awhile since I've seen them. I still like the anime OVA the most though.

He wasn't actually directly involved with the anime though, which is why it doesn't fit in with the movies' continuity. The second movie I mentioned, Moon Over Tao, started out as a third Zeiram which would take place in medieval Japan, though the end result features new characters and a new monster.

The big thing going for the Iria anime over the live action stuff, is that... it's actually sci-fi, lol. The movies don't really give off that vibe at all with their low budget. Kind of like the original Mad Max in a way or something. I always appreciate the cool custom designs and practical effects though.
I could see Moon Over Tao maybe being a little cooler, based off what you said, the trailer, and it doesn't really have to stretch or pretend with a setting like that.

I tried to watch the first OVA but it seemed like pretty generic action stuff. I didn't see the weirdness / creativity that elevate Amemiya's stuff beyond the typical cheap tokusatsu stuff, or much of a story.

As a kid I really liked the cover art to Super Mario 64. In the mid 90's the sight of 3D rendered artwork seemed so novel and high tech. Plus I loved Mario. So it was two awesome things combined right on the box. It's funny because at that age I don't think I even realized the pre-rendered cover artwork was way more detailed than the actual in-game graphics.
