Definitely going shorter for the most part. I've been on a retro kick, and really haven't been in a mood for really long RPGs, either. Heck, even the "modern" games I've been beating, for the most part, are retro-styled throwbacks.
I played some more SoR4, and I've been liking it. I've unlocked a few more characters: all the SoR1 variants, and now SoR2 Max, which makes me really happy. He wrecks dudes. And to make up for the fact that the SoR1 characters have a really limited moveset, they hit really hard as well.

Let me guess... the SoR3 characters are NOT in there, because SoR4 omits the running/dash maneuvers? That would suck.

They did my boy Axel dirty. I guess he's older now though huh? Maybe arthritis got to him... I've been liking Blaze more than I used to over the years though. Nice speed and range.
I think the aesthetics and smaller chibi like characters is what makes me not like Fight N'Rage much. Hopefully SoR4 feels good and I'll dig it.

Hah! Dang, guess they really did do him dirty if he needs all these changes. Any ETA on this patch?

Not one that I know of, but I'm looking forward to it. Honestly, I didn't have that much trouble getting through on Normal with Axel, but like I mentioned before, he felt a little too slow, especially considering his speed rating. Once I unlocked Adam, he felt a lot more powerful, though.
Very disappointed that Estel isn't playable. But I also hear there's some DLC potentially coming, so that would probably be one addition. I played a lot of the game as other characters, and I've absolutely been digging it. Not disappointed at all in the purchase.

Forgot to mention a couple of games last time. These two isometric 'brawler/shooter' both carry the Hotline Miami DNA but they went on to make their own thing with varying degrees of success.
RUINER (2017)
Neon soaked cyberpunk aesthetic, slick artstyle, excellent soundtrack, wack gameplay. Game lets you either shoot or fight mano-a-mano. You can pick up weapons as you go or wield what your standard armaments. Neither shooting nor melee feel meaty and satisfactory. You just end up dashing around the arena-like levels spamming that attack button and waiting for the enemies to blink red so you can unleash a 'Glory Kill' à la Doom 2016. Bosses are recycled and not very interesting to fight, most of them feel like regular enemies with a sturdier healthbar. Still, not all that bad and the OST is really good:
Redeemer [2017]
Just like RUINER, except without the good art, music and interesting setting. Gameplay feels slightly punchier but it's still broken - you can just spam the counter button and easily avoid most damage.
Oh, and this supposedly old-school sci-fi FPS right here:
Hard Reset Redux [2016]
From the people behind the Shadow Warrior remake, so I had some expectations. It is, however, not very good. It's, in fact, quite bad. Comes with all the things I don't like in shooters: cramped environments, boring and bulletspongy robot enemies, cringy pew pew weapons that don't have any weight to them but feel like toys. The cyberpunk setting seems well made at first but I soon felt it was hopelessly generic and lacked personality. Story is not worth mentioning. Boring drag of a game.

Lots of red there. Definitely not having a lot of luck on the gaming front lately, although I guess if you're doing genre explorations you can't help but have that happen.

Finished off another run of SoR4. I'm definitely digging it. It's a great revival of the series. I played as a mix of characters this time: Adam, Blaze, Cherry, SoR2 Max, just fiddling around. Max still owns, but Blaze is a lot better here than her SoR2 version, so I definitely enjoyed using her. I don't know how her SoR2 variant fares here, but I wouldn't mind fiddling around a bit more again.
Might be worth bumping up to hard. I'm trying to figure out what's changed, but I do know they give you less lives per stage than Normal.
