Just a little update to say I am still "playing" Adventure of a Lifetime (as part of my Summer Themed Games thing). I've got about 3.5 hours in this VN so far. It's supposed to be "short", but that's rather relative with this genre. I still like this VN overall, but there's some obvious intentional bloat at times. I don't care for contrived bloat, but that's an expected genre staple unfortunately. So far it's still been All Ages though, no naughty octopus tentacles or anything.

Blazing Chrome's 5th stage is definitely going to be a problem on Hardcore, heh. Was doing great today until I got up to that level. Playing with the Switch Pro instead of the Xbox One controller feels like a better experience too. I'm surprised Sarge hasn't hit this up yet!

I'm actually holding out for a potential physical release.

There's two dev dairies too and I love this kind of stuff when we're talking small garage styled teams.
I hope their stuff keeps gaining more traction and sales, they absolutely deserve it. I'm STILL playing some Blazing Chrome, just beat Boss Rush this morning. Now I'm kind of tempted to try and wrap up all the achievements to really 100% the game. Beating it under 40 minutes for the speedrun achievement might be the toughest. I bet Mirror Mode is freaking weird too haha, running to the left is going to be super weird.

Probably flushing these:
DeadOut - Indonesian developed so it does have a cool different feel to it, but it's just way too chunky and low production for my tastes. Fatal Frame this is not.
Super Cyborg - Been playing this one casually off and on this week but I just can't seem to beat stage 5. It's okay but it's from 2015 and we're kind of entering a stage now, where there's so many options for indie throwbacks, there's better stuff to play. Yeah playing this after Blazing Chrome was a terrible idea, but oh well. Maybe I'll get back to this one someday, but I'm freaking sick of playing stage 5.

Super Cyborg ain't a game you can play casually. I really enjoyed it because of its fidelity to the NES games' vision. Despite liking it, I don't think there's any question that it comes in at the upper tier of difficulty for these types of games. I haven't replayed it for that reason: committing to it again requires focus I'm not willing to give right now. I might not ever, haha. Still, I wouldn't mind someone else joining me in the madness that is finishing the game.

It's aggravating to know there's only 7 levels, so I'm pretty close. I don't totally love how the game looks and feels though.
Really wish it had a roll like Hard Corps / Blazing Chrome. I'm pretty sure I can get to the final phase of the 5th boss (all five eyeballs finally come out). The level itself isn't all that bad.

Heh, I bet it wasn't the best choice coming off of Blazing Chrome. Definitely a different mindset between them.
That boss was rough, no question. I remember it quite well. It's that last stage that will likely give you the most issues, or at least it did for me. That last boss... oof. Of course, the game does give you a few nice tools that the original Contra didn't have, like locking in position like Contra: Hard Corps. Charge shots can be useful, too.

Whelp, just beat the 5th boss and level 6 too (thankfully got a checkpoint near the boss in that one, I was worried since that level was quite long). I got lucky this time keeping Spreadshot for the entire fight with the 5th boss. I'd stand in the middle when the right side thing dropped those bouncing white balls and the slugs. It was easy to just go under the white balls and sometimes jump over them. If you stood too far back, the pattern of their bounce made no sense and was too sporadic to dodge, so that was just a bad idea. For the eyeballs, once you start getting 3-5 in those later phases, it seemed best to take out the lower eyeball on the far left. Otherwise the fireball thing from that one can easily mess you up, especially if it starts shooting multiple when you take out the other eyes. Took my time with the Spreadshot and finally got it. Felt like half my game time was on this level alone. Stage 6 was cool doing the overhead thing. That boss had some seriously nasty stuff, with those spinning orbs you had to dodge, then it had some insanely tight patterns when it traps you dead in the center. Yikes. Briefly played stage 7 and yeah... this is going to be rough.
I wish you could make the Lock a toggle! That's how it is in Blazing Chrome.

I think the lock is a toggle. At least that's how it's set up on mine. Check the menu options, maybe there's a setting.
EDIT: Survey says yes, check your control setup, you can change it from "hold" to "toggle".
