It's still very playable with the patch, though. The playability is there on the patched Switch version. That's not what I was implying. The Switch version's visual fidelity suffers compared to the PS4, One, and PC version. Especially versus the PC version running at highest graphical settings.
But visual fidelity isn't a big concern if you're playing the game portably I suppose.

Yep, I agree with that, too. It was improved somewhat, but it's certainly the worst-looking version. I wouldn't say the game is really a looker in the first place, though, at least compared to a lot of the sublime sprite work in prior games.

In very high resolution, at 60+fps, with all special effects enabled, Bloodstained is a gorgeous game. Sure the 3D "sprites" in Bloodstained aren't as stylish as the hand drawn 2D sprites in certian prior Igavanias, but the background art in Bloodstained is often phenomenal. The Inferno Cave alone is a visual tour de force.

I'm hoping to get that opportunity to play on a more capable PC or on the PS5 I'll eventually own. I plan on snagging the game again when I stumble on a cheap copy (or GOG has a big sale). I tend to replay Igavanias every few years, and I know this one will be no exception - this could be the best since the original SotN.

I went ahead and got a PC copy of Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2. I've been internally debating if I want to play it now, or wait until October. Kinda feels weird to play a Castlevania-ish game in July. But it's probably only a couple hours long, so might as well play it I guess.

I bought a Limited Run physical version of the first Curse of the Moon and was underwhelmed, although judging from the review scores I seem to be an outlier.

I think Curse of the Moon comes into its own in the subsequent runs. The first is fine, but it feels really good to take down a solo, no extra powers Zangetsu run.

Honestly I liked it more than any of the NES Castlevania's themselves. But I know I'm in the minority there. I vastly prefer 16bit Classicvania over the original three.

I bought a Limited Run physical version of the first Curse of the Moon and was underwhelmed, although judging from the review scores I seem to be an outlier. I've only beaten Curse of the Moon once, on 3DS back in May 2018. HLTB says it took me an hour and a half, and I rated it an 8/10. My notes were brief: Here's a great choice for NES fans, a retro throwback in all the right ways. Graphics, music, controls, and everything else is done to 8-bit perfection. Level design could be more creative, but branching paths exist for replayability. Difficulty's on the low end, but players will have fun alternating between the different characters trying out new tactics. Boss battles are fantastic! If you're a fan of NES classics like Castlevania III (and to an extent Mega Man 2), you owe it to yourself to play Bloodstained - Curse of the Moon. This is a short but very sweet treat.
I could see how if someone wasn't already an 8-bit Castlevania fan, CotM might be more like a 7/10. Nostalgia is definitely a contributing factor.
