I'm also curious how AC6 does in a general sense, even if I would never play it. It's an interesting move after Elden Ring to put out what might be a very focused, hardcore action game with heavy customization - basically the opposite of Elden Ring (complexity aside). It's either that or get stuck making bigger and bigger open worlds until it's unsustainable. From a "games business" perspective, I hope AC6 makes money, and I hope people realize that success is relative to sales minus budget, not just sales. If it costs half of what Elden Ring cost to make and sells half as much, it's a big hit, not a flop. This is something people who keep up with the movie business understand - we usually have estimates of production costs, we have box office numbers, and then people who are a little bit more in the know understand that a large cut of the box office goes to the theaters (up to half), and the quoted budget may not include marketing, so that in the end, a movie typically needs to gross twice as much as the production budget to break even. That's how modern Hollywood largely works, anyway, with streaming complicating things. Streaming does not make the industry nearly as much money as videos and DVDs used to, however - in the heyday of rental stores, a video could sell enough to turn a moderate flop into a success. That's why a lot of straight-to-video sequels got made - a movie might not have drawn enough people to the theaters but still got rented a lot.
I don't keep up with modern gaming much so that impression might be outdated, but game fans have long taken a more simplistic approach when discussing these things - we tend to compare hard sales / market shares and nothing else, when we don't actually have much of the information necessary to know whether a game or even console was successful or not, unless it's a huge hit or a huge flop.

toei: It's weird that the gaming industry is so secretive about production costs and stuff, when that stuff is usually out in the open with movies or whatever. Also since you don't keep up with modern stuff much, a lot of publishers don't give out numbers on digital sales, only physical, or might merge the numbers in a bizarre way. The odd thing being that digital is usually a net positive thesedays. I think Zelda Tears of the Kingdom did bonkers doing 10 million physical copies sold in 3 days, so that has to mean it probably sold millions digitally too or something. I don't envy people who try and track this stuff.
Elden Ring broke Steam records and most of FromSoftware's games dwarf publisher Namco's stuff on PC, when those sell well too. But you'll see like Tales of Arise with 20,000 public reviews, and Dark Souls 3 with 220,00. Again, I wish we had more data than we do, but I'll take a wager that From's stuff is extremely popular on PC, as is more obscure mecha stuff. I think AC6 will do really well on PC and with all their good will built up over the last decade plus, it'll probably be a decent seller. I'm sure it'll still be niche', but yeah. AC6 could very well be a game made by FromSoftware for FromSoftware themselves or the niche fan base out there lol, but they probably have enough swagger to do whatever they want here and there at this point. They tend to have 2-3 games in development nowadays as well.
I wonder if any past AC ever sold a million units. I think that could be a low ball estimate on AC6. Elden Ring hit 20 million and is apparently the highest selling third party Japanese game of all time.
With so many casual gamers thesedays, hitting a million isn't as hard as before, but also still quite an achievement. Then you have Capcom who love to boast about that with their long list of "Platinum" titles: www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/business/million.html
It's sometimes revealed when a From game was in development, like Elden Ring started after Dark Souls 3 alongside Sekiro's development. But I could see AC6 maybe being a smaller project they've been cooking up on the side for awhile. I'd guess it's a cheaper game to make than some of the Souls stuff and whatnot but maybe not. I'll predict AC6 sells a million units at least but anything after that, hard to say. But yeah tl;dr we're in the dark on a lot of this stuff haha.

The FM2R is the #1 video game I'm most excited for. As soon as it shows up on Amazon I will preorder it.

Ys X: Nordics releases September 28th in Japan. Not sure about USA release date yet.

I'm not necessarily looking forward to this one, so much as tentatively intrigued. I may get it in November, providing it turns out well.

I think I'm just so focused on finishing up Dragon Quest (basically just 3DS 7 left) and then SMT, which I've only scratched the surface of haha. Then I might dive into some of this newer JRPG stuff that interests me and I own a few entries for. Trails in the Sky, Cold Steel, and all these modern Y's.

Oh, good, they're still supporting PS4. Hopefully it will be better optimized than Ys IX, though. There was no excuse for the performance of that game, given the visual target. Not sure what in the world was going on that would make it that bad a performer. Xeogred: Be a real man and play the PSX version of DQVII.

Naaaaah man, it looks kind of gross. I do like the 3DS facelift it got and I know that version shaves 30 hours or something crazy, yet is still maybe the longest DQ. But I'll be shocked if it goes over my 99% run of DQ11 earlier this year, clocked in 115 hours total.
DQ7 actually was my first one back when it released. I was obsessed with SNES/PSX JRPG's at the time, so I just bought it on a whim. But I remember spending a few hours in the beginning and never getting into a single battle. So I sold it! That was rare for me even at the time and I do regret it. If I still had that copy, maybe I'd consider it... but ah well haha. 3DS version it is now.
