Xeogred Have you played OG SO2? It is a pretty cool game. I'm not interested in playing the remake, but I can see how it'd be tempting if I hadn't beaten the OG already. 1 was good too - 3 is where I got off and stopped paying attention the series. That kind of sums me up then. I played maybe a few hours worth, never got off the first planet or something. I recall thinking I had done a lot, yet it seems like a big normal 40 some hour game from that era, so I probably didn't get very far at all. Only nitpick is that I remember the skill system being kind of odd. But it seems like this remake probably smooths things out.
I own The Last Hope on Steam, the international version of SO4. Apparently the dub is infamously bad (like SO3's when I watched a friend play some), but TLH version has dual audio and some of the extra stuff the PS3 Japanese version had I think. That one sounds the most sci-fi from what I always hear, so I'll give it a shot someday. But everything about SO2 is more immediately appealing haha. I wasn't sure how I felt about this aesthetic at first but I think I'm digging it now. It definitely loses that PSX era flavor but still looks cool in a different way.

I'm sure one would get used to it after a while, though. I'll be buying this new SO2 remake regardless. I don't have much personal experience with SO. Long ago when the English translation dropped for the first SO on SFC, I briefly played it. I was impressed with its presentation, but didn't get far. At the time my roommate played more of it, but I recall he quit playing it because of some puzzles being too hard or something (hard to remember, this was so long ago). He then proceeded to play Star Ocean: The Second Story on PS1. I watched him play it some, I remember liking the graphics, but being annoyed at how the characters constantly yelled the same repeated phrases in battles.* He did eventually quit SO:TSS, he said he had a great time until the final boss, but the final boss stonewalled him. But anyway, I've not played much SO personally. I think the PSP remakes look nice from afar, at least their aesthetics are pleasing and have uniformity between the two entries. *This is a JRPG design thing I will never understand. Having the party members constantly yell out the same repeated battle phrases over and over while fighting enemies. Something like; "Flaming dragon strike!" "Flaming dragon strike!" "Flaming dragon strike!" "Flaming dragon strike!" "Flaming dragon strike!" ad infinitum. Seriously how do developers not realize how annoying that would be? I have literally quit playing JRPGs over this, if they wouldn't let me disable battle voices. Or at the very least change the battle voices to Japanese so I don't know what they're saying over and over.

I remember when I beat Star Ocean 2 I came to realize I had skipped like 50% of the game. That tri-Ace design............
And yeah I hate overly long battle animations and the accompanying move names. Another reason why 4th gen JRPGs mog 5th (+) gen.
This one character was kinda endearing tho:

If I remember right, you can skip some of the animations in Skies? Yeah, long animations suck after you've seen them for the hundredth time. "Hmm, let's see... summon Knights of the Round... guess I better grab something to drink while I wait."
Anyway, I used Lambda Burst with Aika a lot because of its hit-all properties. Very good opener to speed up those battles.

Really curious about this Robocop game too. It's super AA in an awesome way, haha. Unreal Engine 5 I think, so it looks stellar in spots regardless of looking cheap in others. I'm seeing a lot of people digging it tonight on streams and the reception for the demos and stuff up to this point was pretty positive too. From what I've seen, it's actually got a LOT of Deus Ex in there. Bit of an immersive sim edge perhaps. The aesthetic does a good job capturing a 80's/90's Detroit vibe with some sprinkling of sci-fi. For our generations this is looking like a love letter to long time fans.

If it were available on PS4 I'd have bought it day 1 (fan of the IP). It's 9th gen only so fell off my (rapidly diminishing) radar. At the least I'm sure it's better than this:

That damn cover again. Think we were joking about it a few months back.
I'm guessing Unreal Engine 5 is 9th gen only?
The same devs (Teyon) also did this Terminator game that looks pretty cool, if a bit generic in ways. The vibe I get is that a little more passion and soul was put into this new Robocop game, it just looks really charming in a cool way.
But this still looks solid:

I'm guessing Unreal Engine 5 is 9th gen only According to Wikipedia it supports all 8th gen consoles, but it's clearly geared towards PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on the console aspect. Being a fan of the IP helps I'm sure. I thought Grin's Terminator Salvation (2009) was actually good. I beat it on PC, but it's on PS3 and 360 too.

More Super Mario RPG Switch remake video. This one's in Japanese, but you can use the YouTube auto-translate subtitles feature. I'm definitely getting this. It's been 25 years since I last beat this game on SNES, I'll wager I've forgotten plenty.
